New Benefits
Less personal income tax
China’s new individual income tax law is to take effect on Jan. 1, 2019, while the country has already raised the threshold for personal income tax exemption from 3,500 yuan (about $509.05) to 5,000 yuan per month and enforced new tax brackets in October.

To further reduce people’s tax burdens, the revised individual income tax law will also include additional deductions for those who have certain expenditures including children's education, continuing education, treatment for serious diseases, housing loan interests, rent and elderly care.

More old-age pensions
Pensioners of Chinese enterprises, government agencies, and public institutions are going to see an increase in their average monthly payments in 2019, which will mark the 15th consecutive year to witness a growth.

Basic pension benefits for rural and unemployed urban residents will also rise in the coming year. Many provinces and cities have issued official policies on increasing basic pension benefits, while some have already clearly set their increment.

More convenient medical services
China is going to popularize electronic medical records. To boost applications of the electronic medical records system, the National Health Commission of China has issued a notice, asking health administrative departments of various levels to organize classifying evaluations of all secondary hospitals’ capabilities concerning the use of electronic medical records system.

5G is just around the corner
China’s three major telecommunications operators, China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom have received low-band and mid-band 5G trial licenses from China’s Ministry of Industry and Technology.

E-commerce law to better protect the legal rights and interests of all parties in e-commerce
As is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2019, China’s new e-commerce law strengthens protection for consumers and puts more emphasis on the obligations and responsibilities held by platform operators in guaranteeing the quality of goods and fair dealings.

The law also bans such practices as faking positive reviews, deleting negative reviews, tie-in sales, putting off consignment unreasonably, and making it difficult for consumers to get deposit refunds for booking hotel rooms online or bike-sharing services.

Favorable policies for starting a business and gaining employment
China has always regarded employment as the primary focus in its efforts to improve people’s livelihood as well as the top priority of economic development. In the coming year, China will bring in many favorable policies for securing employment of enterprises, providing support for those who want to start a business and job hunters in the country.

The country will also expand the scope of subsidies granted to people or enterprises for internships, vocational training in companies which are going through tough times, training for the unemployed, and improvement of technical skills.

2019 will mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and will also be a critical year for the country’s “two centenary goals.”

The 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy
From 1949 to 2019, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has transformed itself from a small fleet into a major force that has safeguarded the country and its people against harm.

On April 23, 2019, the PLA Navy will hold an international military parade in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong province, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding.

The 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation
In May 2017, China held the first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, jointly charting the course for cooperation and setting foot on the journey of multilateral cooperation based on the idea of “extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits.”

The joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has drawn people of various countries closer to each other and enabled them to share the fruits of development.

In April of 2019, China will hold the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which is expected to propose new ideas for international cooperation, i.e. “high quality, high standard, and high level”, with the aim of further boosting the construction of the Belt and Road and striving for new progress in international cooperation so as to inject strong impetus to the building of a community of common destiny for mankind.

The 2nd China International Import Expo
The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is the world’s first import expo held at a national level. The first CIIE has shown the world China’s determination to open its market to the world.

In the coming year, China will hold the 2nd CIIE, which is expected to be more attractive and exert greater influence around the world as the country endeavors to offer a better import expo featuring high scale, high quality, high standard, and high efficiency.

The 20th anniversary of Macau’s return to China
On Dec. 20, 1999, Macau returned to China, marking a significant pillar in China’s great course of national reunification. In the coming year, standing on this new historical marker, Macau will be ready to embrace a brighter future.

The 25th anniversary of China’s access to the internet
On April 20, 1994, China officially gained access to the Internet via a dedicated international line with a bandwidth of 64k, connecting the country’s internet with global internet.

Today, the internet has been integrated into almost every aspect of daily life and is reshaping the lifestyle of Chinese people. With the mode of “internet+” becoming an infrastructure in China, the internet has seen dramatic development and is creating significant changes in the country when applied in various industries.

With the most netizens, the largest volume of e-commerce business and the highest amount of money sent via e-payment in the world, China’s internet industry has drawn global attention, and is expected to bring better changes to the world in the future.
