‍China's top political advisor Wang Yang was elected on Friday to be the president of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification.

The council's board of directors elected Wang as the president of the council before a ceremony was held commemorating its 30th founding anniversary.

During the ceremony, Wang commended the council for its work in the past three decades and spoke of the need to gather the common will for patriotism, resolutely oppose separatism, and unite all efforts to create a mighty force promoting national reunification.

The basis and conditions for advancing peaceful national reunification are better now than at any time in the past, and Chinese at home and abroad are now more confident and determined than ever in this endeavor, Wang said.

Yeah sure. As long as you redefine "Chinese" as those loyal to the party, and exclude everyone else - however Chinese by ethnicity or even nationality they may be.

What's your beef with the party?

The fact that it is above everything in China, which hinders China's progress.

On topic of this thread, take Taiwan for example. If there truly was One China, a real entity that was above all and any parties in both Beijing and Taipei, prospects for peaceful reunification of Chinese civilization would be much better.

But the "one china" as practised by Beijing, under the leadership of the party, is going to completelly different direction. Peaceful reunification is becoming increasingly harder, and it has more to do with Beijing's domestic developments than Taipei's "foreign relations".

On topic of other threads, the shortcomings of the party are other.

Could you see the fact that the oligarchy in the guise of democracy is above everything in the west? Do you also view it as a problem?

Does the party insist on Taipei being governed by it in a unified China? If you are informed enough, you would know the answer is no. This is the definition of an "entity above any and all parties".

And contrary to your statement, the party has actually led the country closer to peaceful unification,
Believe it or not, it's true.

However you look at it, Taiwan is very much a part of China!  It is only temporarily separated from the Motherland through a quirk in the Civil War.  Reunification with the Motherland is a matter of time!

And what's wrong with 'the party'?  It has brought China up from an impoverished country often labelled 'the sick man of Asia',  to become the world's second largest economy in a short span of 40 odd years!  On the other hand, Taiwan, despite Western support and Western style democracy, is out on a limp, with a sick economy and many nations abandoning it!  The fact you are in China and not in Taiwan shows you are not that dumb!
