Haha, several Chinese went missing, and then re-surfaced to tell their stories, putting to rest all the speculations and fake news surrounding their disappearance!   Thank goodness they are alive after all!   Not so lucky was the Saudi journalist who disappeared without trace, presumably dead.

Except in China, where they go missing for weeks or months, and it is the "government" that surfaces to tell that they've been held for questioning and tell their stories. Which everyone already pretty much knew.

More often than not, it has been the government telling the government's stories both on its own and through the mouths of the captives. When the state security (financial or other) is in play, they don't let them walk unless they agree to speak on the government's behalf.
