The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has proposed a four-day, 36-hour work week for employees in China, to be implemented by 2030, reports guancha.cn. Is the idea good? What countries have a four-day work week?

A report published by the academy on Friday regarding leisure time in China calls for employees to work a nine hour day, four times a week. It has also called for extending the retirement age, and cancelling some of the existing national holidays.

The proposal aims to offer Chinese workers more flexible leisure time. According to the report, workers in China enjoy less leisure time than workers in the United States, Britain, and Germany.workers in the United States, Britain, and Germany.

I think France has a 4-day work-week. China must study the case carefully before implementing this. One problem with this is that businesses are globalised and linked. So if China operates for 4 days and then switch off for 3 days in a week, businesses will be affected. Can this be overcome by shift-work? How many people do you need to hire for shift-work? What about salary? Will the employees earn enough to enjoy the added leisure time?

No!

China is rsing peacefully because Chinese people are very industrious, hard-working.  This is the Chinese virtuosity that we have promoted from generation to generation.

One of reasons that Greece was on the brink of being bankrupt was that their people are lazy.

The national wealth is contributed by hard-working people.

If China adopts four-working days, the cost of labour will soar up, and Chinese products will lose its competitiveness in price, and lthat will lead Chinese economy in slump.

Do you understand the outcome?

Ask a business owner if they ever did a four day week. 36 hours x at least 2 would be normal.

If one is happy to have a skinny wage packet then work for another and do a 36 hour week. But don't complain when a boss drives up in his new car. every year or two, Just get in your old banger hope it starts and go home and watch TV while the boss if still there.

I think France has a 4-day work-week. China must study the case carefully before implementing this.  ...

the French work a 35 hour week - 7 hours a day for your office worker.

- To reduce unemployment and yield a better division of labor, in a context where some people work long hours while some others are unemployed. A 10.2% decrease in the hours extracted from each worker would, theoretically, require firms to hire correspondingly more workers, a remedy for unemployment.
- To take advantage of improvements in productivity of modern society to give workers some more personal time to enhance quality of life.

In addition, it is now illegal to contact an employee outside of work hours.

Having worked in France for a short contract, this encourages efficient time management and planning during work hours.

People in France enjoy life because they don't live to work, and are not at the beck and call of employers.

As with all major issues this requires careful research and proper evaluation. As education, technical training, automation and robotization proceeds, the productive efficiency of each human worker will increase requiring less time to produce the same out-put. The problem of how to provide sufficient income for the people to be able to buy the products will be the deciding factor in maintaining a sound economy. In some cases, the loss of productivity caused by illness (both physical and mental) would be reduced by more leisure time.
My problem is simple: I just know better than everyone-else!
