So what? Nationality has nothing to do with race/ethnicity. They were serving in the HK government  ...
If you became a permanent resident of HK, you would be eligible for a HK ID card which establishes HK nationality under the HK SAR of the PRC.

If you stay in HK for 30 days, you are required to obtain a HK ID card. I know this for a fact because in 2008, I was in HK for 4 weeks, attending a teacher training professional development course through Trinity College London/English for Asia. When I tried to go back to my job on the mainland, the HK border official would not allow me through because I did not have my HK ID card. I spent 4 hours trying to explain to her superiors that I was not in HK for 30 days. I was only there for 28 days, therefore I was not required to obtain an ID card.

You need to have lived continuously for SEVEN (7) years before you can apply for HK permanent residency which entitles you to a HK ID card. Your immigration officer was incorrect; he probably meant that visa-free tourists who want to extend their stay need to apply for a HK visa.

Sorry but you’re confused. I am NOT interested in disparaging foreign countries such as South Africa. You are the one who keep denying your own South African roots. If you’re no longer associated with that country, that’s your choice. But why deny your past? If you have a problem with your own past, then please don’t take it out on China and Chinese.
