First of all, taxes are collected by the state, so yes,you are paying for it unless your are tax criminal. Money doesn't just appear in a state treasury. If that's wrong then you support a sort of socialist, utopian form of weflare, Yes, LAW AND ORDER-that is the way it used to be when law enforcement gave, at least, a tacit concern to what was legal\illegal. Those days are long gone. Now it is only ORDER, and that is evident in every activity of every police department. Somethings are obvious, others are more subtle in appearance. |
Secondly, who said anything about not having the police? This is called a 'straw man argument. It was\is not part of this discussion, easy to knock down as it is constructed for just that reason. It is entirely another debate.
Thirdly, your personal experience, and the generalizations you make thereof, do not hold water. In the over 200 countries in the world those services are charged and expensive. Not that it is relevant to this point, if I would need either of services you stated above, it would cost, for example in the case of the passport, over $US200. One can never generalize from personal(individual) experience to reach a sound overall conclusion. Of course, a murder investigation will cost you, and alot more than a dime. Public services ae NOT FREE.They are funded through diret and indirect taxation. Detectives do not work for free, they are paid by everyone's contributions.
