Although Haruki Murakami mentions the Nanjing Massacre only a few times in his latest, thousand-page novel Killing Commendatore, the book and the author have drawn the ire of right-wing forces in Japan. In fact, Japan's mainstream news portals are full of criticisms against the novel.

While the right-wing in Japan continues to distort the facts of the horrors committed by some Japanese units in WWII, some few stand up and admit the truth and offer their personal apologies. Text books can be altered and facts hidden from the public, or can they? Compulsory teaching of English in primary schools and the growth in their tourist industry means more and more citizens face being told the truth by foreigners and face finding the truth online. The world will remember the facts and Japan will slowly end up admitting the truth that they now hide from in shame for their parents and grandparents who were responsible. It is in their culture to avoid shame, but they can not avoid this shame forever. The world will not allow it.

Japan follows US who denies its history.  US is struggling from the 'unspoken aged divides' as is Japan.  History is what was.  The clearer we look at, admit to and make amends for our our part in our histories (both individually, as countries and regions) the healthier the globe will be.
