With US secretary of state nominee Rex Tillerson threatening to make trouble for China over the South China Sea, observers said Beijing should continue its buildup in the area and tighten relations with countries involved in the area's territorial disputes.
China, which remains firm on its territorial rights, also should approach the incoming administration of US president-elect Donald Trump throu ...

USA should be taken to task about all the unexploded bombs in Laos and Vietnam and make reparations to those suffering long term effects of Agent Orange---never shown on Western media.

Like the US, China needs military vigilance. The difference for China is that its military vigilance needs to be global given its geographical location and its diverse economic pursuits. Even if Russia manages to improve US-Russia relationship substantially, Russia's partnership with China from Russia's perspective is too important to be forgone. Likewise this is the same for China. Its not easy to find a collaborative state, not to mention a dependable one. Its a long journey for Russia and China to focus on building up an integrated economy and security, with people on both sides accepting the other. Somewhere the psychology needs alignment and accommodation. Accommodation means a lesser "me only" attitude that has room to take in another person's concerns. China can welcome any  competition from US. Just stay cool headed to avoid conflicts. The goal against US is to win over North America not blow each other up into obscurity. How to make North America loves things Chinese - that should be the aim. Things cannot be taken for granted - especially the religious terrorism that is spreading from West Asia to East Asia.

China needs a global view not a regional one.

I think after the first 6 months of the Trump administration, China will be wishing it was back in the good old days of the Obama Presidency where the worst they had to put up with was the odd freedom of navigation sail by's or fly by's. And you would in fact welcome them back again. Trump is dangerous to everyone. His mentality may well be, your either with us or against us.
While the international community mostly agrees that the South China sea is not China's sovereign territory, China's stance is that it is indeed China's territory.  This unilateral assertion will fuel Trumps rampage and give him the excuse he needs to pressure China on all manner of things.
It is a shame for all those who may have to fight and die over an area of water that traditionally has been owned by the world and used for world trade that benefits all peoples and has been so for hundreds if not thousands of years.  Let us hope that someone somewhere has enough courage to avert war and restore the correct status quo.

Please note that US has to have a strong say and express dissatisfaction to instill fright and fear so that increase for its defence budget is well justified. This is the game the new kid of the block wants to enjoy with it. Little does he knows the depth and whirlpool beneath the mirror surface with eddies. HAVE A NICE PARTY!

China should start thinking to steer its aircraft carrier into the deep sea of gulf of Mexico, to be closer to the doorstep of USA. After so many efforts to remind the US govt of Chinese sovereignty rights in SCS, every politician has zero inches of respect for the Chinese instead harping on using this as bargaining chip. And US govt will never think it is wrong for them to drive their vehicles close to others' doorstep and create some sort of provocation equivalent to 'bullying' tactics. Sadly, these western policy makers are simply living in cold war mindset that making peace is not within their DNA. China should plan more Naval exercise with its South American allies and demonstrates what it meant by 'freedom of navigation' so that such meddling would be place at higher agenda of discussion to defray the consequences. In short, it needs to adopt a 'Tooth for tooth' wisdom before these politicians wake up to the reality that US should start acknowledging that mutual respect is what required to bring the world to peace and prosperity.
