The champion of globalism, America, starting with the Bush Sr administration, has benefited some countries tremendously, such as Japan, South Korea, and China, by allowing their products to enter the US market free of tariffs, and enriched the importers who could outsell others who refused to import the bulk of their merchandise from the countries with lower costs of production, as well as the exporters, who could turn the dirt cheap labor of their countrymen into shiploads of profit that return tons of money, literally, into their vaults.  But, after twenty five years of this, it has become evident that cheap labor is no longer cheap enough to generate the profits for importers, manufacturers and exporters.  In fact, the numbers of the unemployed, and the under-employed, have continued to rise, despite greater opening up of trade across the world.  What is wrong with the model?  On closer look, the model simply maximizes profits for global traders by taking the cheapest natural resources from anywhere in the world and process them where labor is cheapest in the world, to sell the finished products where it is the highest in the world.  There is a transfer of wealth from the highest spenders to the lowest wage earners, indeed.  But in order to continue to earn, the workers have to keep their wages lower than the rest of the world.  That is why the model fails to produce equality of wealth, and instead exacerbates the gap between rich and poor in every country.  That is why nationalist movements have arisen in every country.  Bannon said he is not a White nationalist, but an economic nationalist.  That is the result of globalization and unfettered "Free Trade" that can only work on the backs of the lowest paid workers.  There is no middle class in the globalist village, only the princes, and the paupers.

As China tries to create and grow its middle class, like America once did in the 1960's, it will hit the wall of Globalism, once friend, turned enemy.  The arrival of American nationalism, and the election of Trump, is a blessing for China, which has benefited the most from globalism and free trade, to now switch to a more egalitarian model and a more sustainable model of development, not at the expense of the workers of other countries, nor becoming the victim of cheaper labor markets in Vietnam and Indonesia, for example, and truly achieve what it calls "sustainable development" through FAIR TRADE.  Fair trade means where some kinds of products should be traded free from tariffs, other products should have tariffs individualized to the needs of each country, to protect their people from unemployment, underemployment, or misemployment (in jobs they should not be taking lopsidedly to the detriment of their overall economy).  Just because a country is a fertile zone for production of sugar does not mean it should abandon all attempts to produce rice that serves as the country's insurance against starvation in the event of war.  That's just an example.  Fair Trade is not just about being fair to each country, but about being fair to each stakeholder in every country.  Prosperity without fairness, is like peace and order without social justice.  It is neither safe nor sustainable.

Nationalism, the notion that there is such a thing as national sovereignty which includes the protection of the lives, freedoms and property of the citizens of the country, is not the enemy of peace and prosperity as Obama warned EU citizenry about, but the guardian, as the example of its absence in Greece has amply proven.  Chinese nationalism and American nationalism, and Russian nationalism, et cetera, can coexist peacefully if the leaders of every country agree to establish a new form of trade agreement amongst them, which is basically similar to a WTO or GATT agreement of lowered tariffs for certain products and services between specific countries, modified by a list of non-tariff-free goods and services specified by each country, to protect its domestic industries and workers.  It is called "Protectionism" which is roundly criticized as a regressive policy that only increases the cost of goods sold, reduces overall employment, and lowers the average standard of living everywhere.  Well, everything taken to the extreme can be accused of the same faults.  The key is to have both Free AND Fair Trade going forward, because Free Trade benefits the elite and the lowest paid workers of the world, but has no benefit for those who want or need to be paid at any but the lowest level of wages.  Free Trade is good for the elites, but when there is no middle class in the end, it will not be good for everyone, as social unrest and anarchy will destroy everything inevitably.

Vietnam and Indonesia are now doing to China what China had done to America.  Chinese factories and jobs are leaving China for Vietnam and Indonesia, which produce goods that are then imported by China, sold at a price higher in China than in Vietnam or Indonesia, benefiting the Chinese factory owners who moved their factories to these foreign countries, while punishing the Chinese consumer-worker class with fewer jobs.  In the end, China will end up like America, and the flames of its nationalism will be no less intense and overpowering.
