Obama travels all across the Pacific simply to acknowledge that embargo of arm sales to Vietnam is permanently lifted. So in effect all Americans are interested is to sell arms of mass destruction to create regional tension taking advantage of the tense South China Sea conflict. What a shame that US government using a double standard lip services : US lift arm embargo on Vietnam, yet will adjust to Vietnam's human rights issue. In fact, they are saying we abide human right act, but did not protect human lives other than American citizens. By escalating arm race in this region, it is encouraging more countries to contain China forcing the first bullet to be planted in the tense South China sea. American did not bring trade benefits to this region, but mostly a new battleground after they did the damages in Middle East that witnessed years of suffering and flock of refugees out to Europe that lost their identity. If Vietnam, Philippines and allies of American are seeking to allow a repeat of the battlefield of equivalent nature to start in Asia Pac, where else Asians could seek refuge except to flood the American soil and completely lose our roots and identity for years of generations our forefather had built.

USA angling for conflict. They sneak around the South China Sea and likely later will stir trouble in Hong Kong, have weapons sales to Taiwan, have more military exercises with Japan, Philippines and Vietnam, not include China in their TPP but then state--USA is not targetting China.

Beyond Containment, Looking to Strangulation of PRC

This post was edited by cestmoi at 2016-5-24 11:30

Vietnam shares a lot of common traits with PRC.

Both have a communist government running a semi-capitalist economy;
Neither tolerate a political opposition;
Both have human rights issues;
Both are building artificial islands and mllitarising them;
Both have a deep mistrust of US intentions;

And yet USofA wants to embrace one of them and is considering selling weapons to it. USofA is obviously using and manipulating Vietnam to further its own geopolitical agenda.

And if I were Vietnam, I'd play one off against the other and see which one of them offers the best deal. The bargaining chip is access to Cam Ranh Bay. Vietnam is too smart to fight a proxy-war with PRC for the benefit of USofA.

Yeah but, the PRC had a wee 'fracas' with Vietnam a few decades ago which is a little more recent than the US involvement in that country.

I dunno cestmoi, maybe it's best if both countries (US & PRC) just leave well enough alone. It won't hurt China to be magnanimous and 'give' Vietnam a few islands etc even if they aren't really theirs to give.

USofA had more than a wee fracas with Vietnam!

Agreed, absolutely, as I have said to you before, what PRC is doing rankles.

Why not joint exploration and sharing of natural resources where geopolitical boundaries collide at high sea?

Ditto for the Philippines, it is a poor country.
