It has been three generations since Ah-Q graced the face of the earth, and his great grandson, Ah-S has become a wealthy rice farmer.
Selling his abundant rice produce for over a generation, Ah-S has accumulated nearly 4 trillion dollars of savings, all by dint of hard work and diligence. But Ah-S got old and turned over his farm to be managed by his nephew, Ah-T, who was better educated than he is, and understood modern economics much better too.
Ah-T, on assuming his job, told all the rice farmers that the price of rice they were selling at was TOO LOW.
In order to bring up the price of rice, Ah-T took out one trillion dollars from the family vault, and used it to buy rice on the market.
From 8 pounds of rice per dollar, the price rose to 6 pounds per dollar, or alternatively, from $0.125 per pound, it went up to $0.167 per pound, a rise of 33%!
And because of this bold action, the farmers of Ah-S could no longer sell their rice in the international market, as it was overpriced compared to rice produced by other farmers. To add insult to injury, foreign rice was selling much more briskly than the rice produced by Ah-S' farmers, in their own home town.
Utilizing his unfathomable sophisticated economic models, Ah-T concluded that the farmers working for Ah-S had "OVERCAPACITY" and therefore, the farmers of Ah-S need to be retrained to cook noodles, sing for a living, or invent new things. Thus, he began to lay them off the farms of Ah-S, all the while promising to defend their livelihood by continuing to buy rice with the remaining trillions of dollars saved up by Ah-S, to keep the price of rice at a "respectable above middle class level" worthy of the new Sina Dream.
The dollar reserves of Ah-S were used to import things that the people needed while they were retraining in other jobs, and consuming instead of producing, which is encouraged, because consumption counts as GDP growth, under the economic theory or NEW NORMAL of Ah-T and company.
One day, the people will wake up to the fact that the dollar reserves used to buy rice from other countries is finished, and so too are their daily rations of rice that are no longer produced in sufficient quantity at home, and need to be imported.
And, surpise, surprise, Ah-T and company decided to live abroad, where the people are more productive than their lazy, insatiable, ex-farmers, who up to the end, never figured out what happened to them, and the four trillion dollars gone from the vaults of their departed patriarch, Ah-S, except that if it is not at home, it must be somewhere abroad. Oh well, time to start again from scratch . . .
