Editor's Note: It is estimated that about 18,000 Chinese children are educated at home. With more parents and education experts dissatisfied with the current system, do you support home schooling for your child?

No. The purpose of schooling is to provide children with an environment to pick up social skills, give and take.... in addition to academic skills.
If made legal, there is also a danger that children are left alone at home unattended....and parents may not know if there are changes in the national curriculum. Also... just try teaching physical education skills at home. Not possible. Schooling in the formative years provides a common foundation for all. An equal and fair playing field with well-rounded knowledge and skills. This should not be missed.

Home schooling is a good way for some children, excepecially for those who have some difficulty with communication ,independence and self-protection. But, home schooling has a high standard for parents or say "home schooling" teachers. They must have overall abilities in knowledge and teaching. So it is impractical for all children. Besides, the purpose of school teaching is to offer chances for children to learn to communicate, or say to get necessary social skills. Environment is important, I think, school teaching is far better than home schooling today.

Yes, homeschooling is a valid option in many places, especially where the people aren't scared of innovation. As the writers mention, bullies are a bad scene in many mainstream scenarios, and when they aren't disturbing girls, they slow the whole claaa down. So making life happen without bullies is a good, valid option since it increases learning speed, enjoyment and interest, therefore it increases development. Homeschooling can legally be done in small groups in some areas of the world, resulting in a stay at home mother whose family is okay without the second income being allowed to homeschool 2 to 8 children for a few hours each day, maybe surprisingly resulting in a second income, maybe resulting in fair trade among good neighbours. In such an environment, any bully with discipline, 100% negativity, or cognitive problems can be told to go away, and such parents can be refused. The children developed in homeschooling tend to leap ahead in their areas of interest, so the group classes [such as arts and sports in community centers] are only part of the socialization equation. They also have to be prepared for university faculty whose religious belief is they aren't allowed to be, aren't allowed to learn young, aren't allowed to be let in instead of robbed and betrayed. Faculty are supposed to be happy at finding advanced students yet tend to feel jealous and start visceral, instinctive fights, instead.

It is certainly true that a few exceptional homeschooled students can be found!  It doesn't hurt that the student teacher ratio is one to one.  You could get the same results with that ratio in a public school!  One problem with home schooling is who controls the curriculum.  Some people in the USA who have religious beliefs against science use home schooling to indoctrinate their children.  This doesn't benefit either the children or society.  In some parts of the USA, white parents use home schooling to keep their children out of mixed race environments.  People who have problems with bullying need to demand that schools address them.  Put your energy into creating a safe environment for all children.  The children and society will thank you.
