He is a Vietnam veteran as well, he told me the Vietcong was scared of the L1A1, 7. 62 SelfLoading Rifle along with Australian fighting tatics.
Delta Company 6RAR (28 people in total) accidently took on a brigade of NVA regulars, out numbered by 300 to 1 we still won the battle. The North Vietnameese have confirmed this. We also did a similar thing in Korea with the Chinese
