A mother in Shaanxi Province wanted her son to stay home for the Spring Festival holiday so much that she stashed his train tickets to prevent him from leaving - even after he called police to report them missing, media reported on Wednesday.
The mother surnamed Huang confessed to hiding the two train tickets for Shenzhen, Guangdong Province after police found them under a roof tile at her Tongchuan home.
Intending to travel to Shenzhen for work, the son surnamed Wang called police after noticing the tickets, along with 10,000 yuan ($1,599) in cash and his ID, were missing.
The mother said she hid the items to keep him at home during Spring Festival, a holiday for family reunions.
"We found the mother was a little panicky during our investigation but she was never a suspect," a policeman assigned to the case said. No charges were pressed.
Seeing how much the holiday meant to his mother, Wang decided to stay home.
