TAIPEI -- The Kuomintang Party won six county and city chief seats in Taiwan's biggest-ever local elections held Saturday, while the opposition Democratic Progressive Party landed 13 seats, according to the island's electoral authorities.
The other 3 seats of the island's 22 county and city chiefs were picked up by independent candidates.

It looks likely the election result will prolong reunification process. Or rather all the effort and investment to propel the process by Chinese government soon realised Taiwanese people aren't easy to deal with as they are still embedded in a different mentality. In short, Taiwan clearly wants China to boost up its economy through effort to relax its barrier to enable Taiwan to compete in global stage using 'possible' reunification excuse as part of agenda for stalling more time. The carrot on the stick wields no mean any feast for joy as the people of Taiwan would not trust the mainlanders but simply love the yuan factor. President Xi was right to say that all reunification or peace treaty should start during his rein as president and not to leave it to next generation. With pro-democracy party soon to be elected to power, it would be interesting to see how each cajole for interest to create a win-win factor.
