it's not that difficult. all you do is remember a character. But there are thousands of them!

no need to remember all the characters...if you got your basic correct~
each strokes or slash or add on...then you automatically can pronounce it...
only have 4 tones in each character...

the pinyin tests are harder i feel, so many meanings for shi

Do you know why the i in "shi" is not  ...

pinyin means "tone similarity"...

pinyin means to use alphabet to pronounce chi-nese characters...
alphabets is not tones like chi-nese characters...but in order for you all to learn chi-nese, and since you all learn eng-lish already...pinyin came into existence for you to pronounce properly...

german and english may have similar origins, but the two languages today are very different. for starters, english doesn't have nouns with gender. spanish has nouns with gender, but at least the nouns often have built-in mnemonics, which is not true with german.

for me, chinese is easier than most other languages i have studied, hands down.
