From the Global Times, we read that the Chinese Navy reminds itself of the important events of 1894 that led to the most painful defeats that China had ever suffered at the hands of the Japanese savages:

In a related article published on June 19, 2014, at the Beijing Wan Bao, an analyst of the causes of China's defeat in the First Sino-Japanese War, also known as the Jia Wu Zhanzheng, pointed out the most fundamental cause above all else was the corruption of the government and military, which defeated China from within, producing lack of training, fake ammunitions, or simply no ammunitions - in short, China's defense forces were already robbed blind with arms tied behind by its own corrupt officials, and then sent to its destruction by these same corrupt officials, to hide the evidence of their theft of military resources.  Xi's fight against corruption must continue onward to the highest and lowest civilian and military ranks, because China's fight against corruption is nothing less that its fight for national survival, and a prerequisite to win in any military encounter with a future attacker.
