Song: For What It's Worth
Lyrics: Stephen Stills
Sung by: Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

need more detail.

Yes edon55, it was around the time of the Vietnam war. The song was written in 1966.
However, the song is based on events in USA rather than in Vietnam itself. Although, the Vietnam war is involved to a degree.

Any more ideas?

Tsupasat might know if he was around.

the songs

I do not know this one Relentless. I remember another, but not the author from the vietnam war times. If I made some mistakes, I hope some of our Yankees will mend them. Memories are faiding after a time.

What did you learn at school today,
dear little boy of mine
(repeat)

I learned that the Washington never told a lie
I learned that soldiers seldom die
I learned that everybody's free,
and that's what the teacher said to me
That's what I learned at school today
that's what I learned at school.

What did you...

I learned that policemen are my friends
I learned that justice never ends
I learned that murderers die for their crimes
even if we make a mistake sometimes
that's what I....

What did you.....

I learned our government must be strong
it's always right an never wrong
our leaders are the finest men
and we elect'em again and again
that's what...

What did you learn...

I learned that war is not so bad
I learned about the great ones we have had
we fought in Germany and in France
and one day I may get my chance
that's what I learned at school today
that' what I learned at school

How about this relentless?

Student John Filo shot this famous photo of a grief-stricken girl kneeling over Jeffrey Miller, killed during the protests on May 4, 1970!

I met the girl once, with a thick NJ/NYC area accent, of American-Italian descent; she told me that at that time, she was a 14 year old runaway who was just hanging out with the students at the time. When I met her, she was down and out in her luck and still struggling with her life, that would have been about 2 to 3 years later.

Sorry Dobridan

I never heard the song before! Of course, I am from the Southern United States, and am not a Yankee, per se!
