Rural Revitalization: Can China Show the Path to the world?
2025-04-30

Urbanization is a global phenomenon.

Over the last one to two decades, a massive population shift has occurred, with people moving from smaller urban centers to nearby larger ones, leading to the rise of megacities across the world. These megacities bring their own set of challenges, and significant effort is now being devoted to addressing them. However, this migration has left the countryside increasingly empty, often populated only by the elderly. The pursuit of education has led many young people to abandon farming and other rural activities, a trend that is not unique to China but persists across nearly every region.

Recognizing this issue, China is actively working to reverse the trend. The government is implementing policies to make farming more attractive, offering various schemes to encourage young people to pursue agriculture. Additionally, efforts are underway to establish small farms near major cities as part of a broader initiative to promote farming.

What do you think of these efforts? Can China set an example for the world in revitalizing rural areas and reversing urbanization?
