Chinese seal engraving, a combination of calligraphy and engraving, has a history of over 2,000 years. Artists, scholars and connoisseurs tended to stamp seals somewhere on a piece of calligraphy or painting for their own enjoyment and connoisseurship.

Today, I would like to introduce a seal carved by Mr. Guo Weizhang, (郭维章) who has been devoted to seal engraving for several decades, and his seal works are favored by many well-known artists.   

“仁者乐山”原句的意思是有仁德者喜爱山。句中“乐”字的拼音是yào，读四声，出自于春秋孔子的《论语▪雍也》。

The Chinese character "乐“ pronounces yào，the fourth tone of the Chinese Pin yin. it is from the Analects of Confucius in the Spring and Autumn period.

原文：

子曰：“知者乐水，仁者乐山；知者动，仁者静；知者乐，仁者寿。”

The master said,” The wise find pleasure in water; the virtuous find pleasure in hills. The wise are active; the virtuous are tranquil. The wise are joyful; the virtuous are long-lived.
