What is the fascination of Chinese people with building replicas of famous place

Recently I came across an interesting sight in the middle of nowhere... in the Province of Zhejiang, in a ghost town. There sits this copy of the famous Eiffel Tower, albeit on a smaller scale, about 130 meters tall, 
whereas the original is over 300 meters tall..
