New York Times says beef scandal puts brazilian agribusiness in check
2017-03-20
The scandal involving another 30 Brazilian food companies accused of changing the expiration date of spoiled meats, makeup their appearance or using chemicals to mask the bad smell had a great international repercussion.

For the New York Times, the scandal rocked the firm pillar of the fragile national economy, Agribusiness. For the newspaper, the case raises doubts about the Agro sector and is another blow to the country trying to recover from other major scandals, such as those of Petrobras and Odebrecht.

The BRICS countries are a threat to traditional capitalism

AnneJustin 2017-03-21 04:05

The Brazilian economy and all BRICS countries will suffer strong attacks, I believe this is only the beginning.

I agree with you, there are many corporate interests, whether from Silicon Valley or not, but almost always from the United States.

Countries that are very dependent on exports of raw materials, such as Brazil, are always very easy targets for international speculation, whether capital or business

Congratulations on your vision. Large American corporations have always intervened in business around the world. Currently, with the new design of the world economy, it is the companies of the "Silicon Valley" that use more of global frauds to leverage their businesses, but evidently the business of the meat is also acting, probably are present in the scandal in Brazil.

Yes but like I said, this profits before safety corporate culture comes from current leader state USA.

The battle for modern capitalism is between the 'conscious capitalism' movement and the so-called 'disruptors' if Silicon Valley like the Uber and Tesla CEOs that insincerely claim to be interested in 'changing the way we live our lives' but have no regard for national laws and regulations. The US capitalist class are behind these criminal 'disruptors' but they are backing the wrong horse. Just look at the troubles that the obnoxious and criminal behavior of the Uber CEO us causing. Elton Musk does a better job of presenting a civilized public face but the fact is that he and the Uber CEO are two peas in a pod and both Uber and Tesla share the same obnoxious uncaring and insincere and criminal cultural and these two law breaking, regulation ignoring corporations are the personification of modern US capitalism. If this was a US company that had ignored laws and regulations to make profit the New York Times would probably be telling us that the criminal companies involved were clever disruptors. But since USA wants to use this to hurt Brazilian meat industry to help their own they will try to make a big deal about it. Look at how Theranos was praised to the point that it was the next big thing, and it was putting the public in great danger with its blood testing tech that did not work. Theranos was a 'disuptor'. When authorities were forced to act all Theranos got was a slap on the wrist. Look how USA allows products like Monsanto's roundup to be sold despite the link to cancer. What is the good if warning labels when it is not just the person using the roundup that can be affected? USA cares more about profit than safety and since USA is leader state it is no shock that this same corporate culture exists in Brazil. At the end of the day we must blame USA and the modern corporate culture that USA promotes.

You are right, Brazil and many other countries surrender to various standards imposed by the United States, especially in relation to agro toxics and other inputs.

However, in the case of the "meat scandal", we have a genuine case of bad commercial and moral practice "made in Brazil". Undoubtedly, for the greater cause of capitalism: profit without scruples.

To further yield the production of sausage meat food companies were using unsuccessful meat and other inappropriate ones.

It is modern capitalist thinking from USA that favours private self regulation and in my opinion the profits over safety mentality of Brazil is due to American influence. Brazil puts its populations safety at risk by allowing business ( often US owned ) to use fertilizer without any regard for worker/public safety so in this kind of climate of course Brazilian companies are going to do dangerous things like sell bad meat and think they can get away with it.

Elton Musk is allowed to 'self regulate' by USA. Elton Musk blows up a rocket and damages public launch pad and the US government let's him investigate the incident himself. USA let's Elton Musk and other 'beta test' self driving vehicles on public roads. USA does not require Elton Musk to share data on Tesla vehicle accidents allowing Tesla to peddle whatever nonsense it pleases after a Tesla crash even though there is no independent body to verify the nonsense that Tesla spit out. USA allows companies like Theranos to sell blood testing tech that does not work for years due to the fact the US healthcare and pharma industries are allowed to essentially self regulate. Public safety means zero to the Americans and since they are leader state and responsible for the greatest influence on global corporate culture then it is USA that is responsible for what happened with the Brazilian meat at the end if the day. Things will only get worse until the profit over safety culture of USA improves and until they put appropriate importance on government or independent regulation of business but with current US President Donald Trump cutting regulations left right and centre we can expect things to get worse not better. Ultimately it is USA that is to blame.
