Studying abroad is overrated
2012-08-28
Not long before, My collegue's daughter went to Australia for study. And I heard that there are many young students apply for VISA to other countries everyday. Why?
In fact, studying abroad has been popular in recent years. More and more young people woud like to go abroad. Is it good or bad? why are they crazy about studying overseas? one of the reasons may be they can improve foreign language and understand other countries' culture quickly, and then they can get a good job; in addition, studying abroad can open their eyes, they can change their lifstyle; lastly, of course they can learn advanced science and technology from other countries because of better studying conditions such as better lab equipment etc..
However, in my opinion, I think nowadays studying abroad is overrated, the reasons are as follow:
1. In other countries, some unversities are not good enough, they just do business with some foreign students, in order to make much money, they issue fake certificate to foreign students.
2. In china, some rich families send their children to overseas when they are very young because the college extrance exam is very strict.
3. As you know, many students graduated from overseas. When they came back to China, they can't get a good job. Sometimes they stay at home for a long time.
So I think whether studying abroad or not should be thought over. First of all, what kind of life do you want? What kind of job do you want to do? and how is your parents' economic condition and so on?
Do you have any point of view for this phenomenon?

Yes, I agree with you. The most important thing for education is to train children to improve their thinking capabilities.

It is not about exam or not - but the kind of it :)
Should be hard, sure, but more... for thinking capabilities.

Thanks for your response.

Yes, too much memorising for Chinese exam. But on the other hand, if there is no college extrance exam in China, we can imagine that many people will enter to college through various means, especially for those rich or powerful people.

Ad.1 that is why You should select carefully ;)
Ad.2 I agree. but I think it is good reason. those main exam here is more likely to Confucius times, then modern education (too much memorising, too less logic and thinking)
Ad.3 while deciding to study abroad it is essential to think about the future first. financial backup is one thing, but other are real perspectives. if You choose studying profile that matches both - job market and Your own needs, You can succeed. otherwise - think not only twice, but eight times :)
