Interesting how life takes a turn when you least expect it. All i wanted was to resolve life's simple problems and move to to greener pastures as it may seem. But little did i know that the greener the pasture the higher the maintenance.
We are right now at this moment lead to think that the better cars we drive, the bigger wedding rings we choose, the huge houses we buy, the more branded goods we have makes our lives better. Marketing does this to us, oh wait continuously doing actually. Everyday we are hit with direct or indirect messages that THIS IS GOOD FOR US BUY IT ! Yeah .. marketing is a big business.. we have people now with marketing degrees.. masters even.
Do we realize this though .. Does it actually make us a better man if we drive a BMW ? Does it really make our wedding the best if we buy a Cartier ring or have the reception in the BEST HOTEL ? Do we really use a 2000m2 house with a 10000m2 garden ? So You carry a GUCCI bag.. it says i am classy.. and i am better than you.. does that make you happy ?
To some extent these thoughts are interesting .. and of course its about showing off and making everyone gawk at our presence.. for what ..10 seconds ? Its FACE.. nothing but face.. we end up paying through our nose and depleting our accounts and sometimes our lives for it.
Falling for this fallacies .. will continuously make us poor. In comparison to years back.. indeed we are making more money .. but are we really?
This ties up to a familiar saying i've heard sometime before.. The things you own end up owning you...
I would like to share this with you guys though.. "Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact." Tyler Durden.. Fight Club.
I'd rather spend the time chasing my kids around the block and with family or friends BBQ'ing and beer.
Questions on what to buy is often asked by many people with little or no difference in its tone. I've had people from all walks of life ask me this..
My answer .. Next time you think about buying something .. decide .. without family or peer pressures..
