I have learnt English for four months in World. I also remember the scene that I attended my fourth lesson which topic was about food, I could not speak any word when teacher asked me to introduce a special food in my hometown. Now, I want to introduce it to you!
“Donkey fire” is a very famous snack in My hometown, which is a china pie, with minced donkey meat in the round flour-cake, about 15 centimeters in diameter. It’s taste is a little salty, crispy outside and soft inside. It is easy to cook but hard to cook well, because the donkey meat comes from the free-range young donkey, which should be stewed with soup boiled many years several hours in a pot. First, put the round and flat dough into a pan until medium well, then put it into a oven until swelling, and it becomes light brown color, at last, cut a opening on the rounded side, and put the steaming donkey meat into it, now, you can eat with your hand. Also, people usually put some vegetables with donkey meat into the pie, and the pie may be rectangle.
The legend about the donkey fire is that there were two major gangs in ancient city of baoding, Canal gang and Salt gang. Canal gang controlled the water transport, and Salt gang sold private salt for living, the latter relied on the former. Gradually, two gangs had conflicts, Salt gang changed water transport to land transportation, and donkey was the main means of transport. But, Canal gang repeatedly attacked Salt gang and often won, and captured a large number of donkeys, so they braised donkey’s meat for food, it was very delicious. For portability, the local people put donkey meat into the roasted round flat pie as food, and spread widely until now.
