Shanghai 2.0
2014-04-04

My hubby and I are enjoying another round in Shanghai for Tomb Sweeping Festival. We took the bullet train, and that was a pretty awesome experience. Though it meant that it would take us much longer to get into the city and get our explorations started, we were happy to say at the end of it all, that we finally took a bullet train.

Not much to report on our first day of traveling yesterday. I am proud to say that I ate Shanghai dumplings (those wonderful jaozi filled with meat and soup) to my heart's content yesterday. When my husband and I were here last, it was during Chinese New Year, so all of the traditional Shanghai restaurants were closed. We're also staying in the city center this time around instead of the "Old Town" area which makes travel and sightseeing a bit quicker for things that are more central.

Not sure what we'll plan on doing today. My only hope is that my back pain this morning will go away, so I can enjoy the day outdoors, not at work. (I've been struggling for over two months now with back pain that keeps me immobile at times.)

Despite that set back, I'm keeping my positivity alive! Anyone have any suggestions on things we should definitely not miss while we're here in Shanghai? We leave this Sunday at 1PM, so we're up for anything to jam-pack into our work free days! :)

Always leave something to go back for!

Thanks for the suggestions! We actually got to a lot of those places. I think the French Concession area where Tianzifang was our favorite. Hubby and I are visiting an acupuncture place near our work when we return to Beijing. Hopefully, that'll finally put an end to my back pain issues (been going on for about 11 weeks now! Yikes!). Shanghai was a blast, I'm a little sad we can't stay longer... :(

Sorry to hear about the sore back. Perhaps an inexpensive, quality massage would be a good investment of an hour in Shanghai to help you keep going. If you are quite central, there are many good ones. For low cost and quality staff, mainly blind, there is one on the Beijing West Lu and the junction with the Tongren Lu, buses 15, 315, 927 from Jing an Temple, just a couple of stores to the left of the Family Mart on corner, on Beijing Xii Lu. There are so many things to see. Do you like Modern Art? Moganshan Art District, 50 Moganshan Lu, use 76 bus from Jing An Temple. Tianzifang Art and cafe and shops area - Taikong Lu. Enjoy. Thanks! I think we'll definitely hit up the jazz band at the Peach Hotel tonight. The Shanghai Museum sounds pretty cool...maybe we'll hit that up tomo!

Shanghai Museum, I heard, is awesome. I visited the Museum before they moved to the current location which is much, much bigger and even then I was very impressed.
I also like the jazz band at the Peace Hotel on the Bund. The band has a real long history as it started before WWII. They play the swing style of jazz and most musician are seniors, or at least they used to be. Check it out if you are into that kind of music.
