Houhai? only in memory

Actually I do not like today’s Houhai, it has become a scene set for a new generation of stylish establishments.

The area is no longer a good spot for people watching and taking a stroll, but with lots of bars and restaurants lined the shores of the lake.

I miss the Houhai in several years ago, when it attracted only park-goers, weekend fishermen, or ice skaters, depending on the season….

Sigh

Yeah, I agree. But, Houhai is still one of the few areas where you can have a glimpse of the old life of Beijingers. To name just a few, the typical courtyard, hutongs(alleys), antique shops, and the lifestyle residing in it for centuries.

Beijing is such a dry place that, having a lake like this is almost a blessing.

Actually a lot of people find fun in Houhai. The other day i went there, I found some are fishing along the bank lleisurely, some are boating in the river, some are chatting over a drink in the bars, and some are even swimming.

Although heavily commercialized, Houhai still remains a haven for Beijingers to escape from the noise of the city.
