Leave a space for ur solitude
Strictly speaking, human is a type of animal that tends to lead a social rather than individual life. If u like, it’s easy to collect a bulk of strong and indubitable evidences to defend this.
But isn’t true? What kind of social life the word covers?
Beyond boundary of common sense, the word “social”, herein, not only embraces some things as bait fame and accumulate property by all means, not narrowly peer at all gathering in a mess in the street or grand hall. But, in my limited perspective, also emphasizes on one of main bridge which span the gap between countries, races, color, even languages: right reasoning.
However, in our current society, a common picture becomes more difficult to draw in our hand. Much time we wasted on one-eyed monster (TV, and new digital gadgets), around the corner of cyber web, etc. Solitude is like a haunting ghost we scare to be in face with.
If not, where to get clear reason and make right decision on short-term, and long-term demand?

Thanks for ur comments on this topic.
Solitude is only the prelude to a great tragedy, as everybody knows. But less people can take back on her/his couch and put her/his nose in a flavory book, unfettering dimly-scraped mind and dipping in seeking real meaning in her/his life.
Too much we lost as our physical living envirments has gotten better (what kind of development emerged, only relatives and persons who r interlocked with our "dear" leaders cut off major proportion of our fruit).

never alone
I keep looking but I have never seen a Chinese person go out alone, unless they are on the phone going to meet someone.
Never eat alone, holiday alone, rarely shop alone or work alone, but foreigners in China may have to spend a lot of time alone.

As a social creature, i find it hard to follow suit. Because, except few rewarding members of think tank for the whole world, no one can escape the same fate: to survive in the orderless jungle.

who does stand such foolish stuff?
i pledge that: be proud of loneness.
Nature endows us sensitive emotions and clear sense, not to heel meaningless trends but to conduct self-improvement.

It is popular for Canadian to go to their cottages every summer to escape their city lives. In their cottages, they are much closer to the mother nature.
There is another popular mean to gain a few reflective moments, that is through "retreat". It is like becoming a monk or a nun for a couple of weeks in a desolated place away from humanity. Some "retreats" carry certain religious flavor and others are just secular activities. Canada offers many places and moments that people can enjoy their solitudes.
In Canada, solitude is not a rare commoditiy unlike some densely-populated countries.
Historically Canada is no stranger to the "two solitudes", refering to the French and English Canadians.
Canadians know what solitude is from their long and cold winter.
Solitude also exists within our hearts and spirits. Seek no further for external solitude, for it is all within ourselves. In that sense, solitude can be found even in the most populated cities and among the deepest sea of humanity.
---One bird's eye view of solitude in the sea of humanity---

As with most things, a good balance is probably best. Some solitude is helpful, so that we get to know ourselves and relax, and we are free from behaving certain ways. But of course if one spends ALL one's time alone, rarely seeing others (I know someone like this) I think that can be harmful. I do think humans crave some things from other humans - to talk, touch, laugh, see that there are others who also have troubles, etc.... It can be comforting and educational to be social.
Can part of your social life be on the computer? Our conversation here, haha... does that count as being alone at home on the computer, or does it count for interaction?
Maybe both?

I heard somewhere that spending too much time online can lead to increased feelings of loneliness/isolation. I guess it's because it's like you're talking with people, but you're not really. Kind of artificial.
Me, I like my alone time, but I also like to be around other people. It depends on my mood. Sometimes it's really nice to just sit quietly by myself and read a book, and sometimes it's just as nice to go shopping with friends.

Everyone here deserves my mountains of gratitute. Ur words, just like lighting in summer, pierces through unpenetrable sky and leave a shot and miracle in my mind, sophisticated and being full of straw.
What i want to say does not indicate solitude itself, actually, to regard it as a mean to uplift our debased life to a higher level. In current society in China, people as headless fly has lost their self-consciousness, fly from one end to another, with no reason why they should act that.
On screen and such things, a mirage in ur eye different from the reality whirling around ur real life. Because there is no enough channels to connect the two ends. Ironicly, that is our generation's tragedy, new generation is born like from white page, our real history is scrubbed away with no trace to be found.
Open history textbook, an eulogy chants from aboriginal anciants to always -right current system; the same theme infuses in all our life, direct and indirect.
For this regard, there is no surprise that innovation seems patent to Westerners and their allies. China, my nation, just like an onlooker on Nobel Prize ceremony for decades.

I believe as China continues it's cosmic journey into infinity, people like you will gain voices. It is the ear of humanity that would be finally unplugged. And for many thousand years to come, human will once again rejoicing in their living and existence. It is truely a paradise in the making!

we can not accept things without reservation.
How large and how often you leave the space for solitude are where the shoe pinches.

Everything has a purpose and if you do not have a purpose then being alone for alone sake is not a good thing. Religions advocates solitude, Buddhism, the Gregorian monks and many others constantly practise meditative time alone. Their purpose: To have a deeper of oneself and his/her relationship with the 'higher being', environment and for some the meaning of life.

Good point.
So perhaps it depends on what you do with your time, be it solitude or social time. A healthy, fairly wise person will use solitude wisely and constructively, AND will use social time wisely and constructively.
A fool might waste one or the other, or both.

I have been told by several westerners that Chinese people r so easily getting bored and so much afraid of being alone. I can see that. They've got a point there, so I never did argue with them about that. Such comments strike me sad. It sets me thinking: what is wrong with China?
We must understand that this is due to the Chinese culture. But what is Chinese culture then?
U know what, it's tough to be alone in China, although I doubt whether it would be comfortable being alone in Canada, or anywhere else.
By the way, I'd like to recommand the book" The Alchemist" here, it's about being on one's own and pursuing one's personal legend stuff. I got this book from a lovely Canadian friend, as a gift, I guess( ha ha!). Beau......tiful story!
