Making progress bit by bit
I am happy nearly every day.
The reasons why I am happy are these:
1) I am leading a full and meaning life every day: I work on my thesis paper in the mornings to ensure I will not become a procrastinater at last. During the short breaks I take at intervals, I may read newspapers in English or just listen to English tapes and then I try to repeat things on the papers or the conversations on the tapes to practice speaking. When I am doing this, I try to make sure not to go so deep as to fall back to STUDY English, that is, to pay too much attention to grammer. That way takes efforts without good result. I make myself relax and tell myself you are learning about something in English instead of studying the language. What you need to do is to try to describe what you read or hear in English just as the author or the announcer does. Only by this way can you only make progress in English gradually as you've learnt how to use some English words, expressions as well as sentence structures after doing that. Thy key to grante your efficiency is to just take it easy rather than be too serious about English.
2) I have a good teacher tutoring me now. He has given me much help in how to learn English more efficiently and thus will help qicken my steps on my journey of English learning. Apart from him, I also have a good freign friend heiping me. He not only speaks good English like the man tape reader of New Concept English but has rich life experience on which he can draw wit to help me make wise decisions and give right directions in my life.
3) I was offered a job as oral English teacher in a vocational school teaching basic level IELTS students. I was very glad when I was told through phone that I had been hired as it proved my ability to speak English fairly well. It's quite encouraging. But I know I haven't reach the level of naturality and proficiency in English, there is still a long way to go.
With their unselfish help and my perseverence, I am sure I will gain proficiency in English some day in the future. Sooner or later, my dream will come true.

You have made a good point. It is not exaggerated to say that is a paradigm shift of your mindset, from a grammar analyst to a communication practitioner.
You know, over analyzing the patterns of a language inevitably takes away the joy of learning and using it, with a heavy burden of worrying "whether saying it right or wrong" on the mind, no one can express oneself comfortably, confidently, fluently.
Some people say, "When you are in doubt, don't do it." I'd say, "When you are in doubt, just do it." Especially when it comes to speaking and writing in a foreign tongue.
Of course, we can not just throw all the rules and grammar away. A rule of thumb is to make use of small words, short phrases, simple sentences ... which are not only easy for us to say, but also easy for others to understand.
Keep it up.

it seems that i ever met you at someplace,maybe you have a same name as a person who i know,your view about how to learn english is quite correct,over the past two years of my learning english experience, learning english is just an entertainment,not a task to force you to do this,only you treat it as fun that you can make much progress quickly.

of course you r lucky,i admire that ,you hv foreign friends,it's a pity i don't ,so catch that chance.
i read some replies you guys made,for some opinions ,i have different ideas,
i think we should not learn e for money ,we have to correctitude our atitude, we learn it just because we love it ,ok,nothing else,that is why we spend time on it ,and personally ,that is why i can get happiness from it.
we could compare it with love someone ,if your love not for her bute something else,then your love is not true,you r cheating uself and her.
that's all.

Cheers! You really have done a good job. You have a good attitude to study, not study from book, but study from life, and try to use the book knowledge in daily life. If we pay much attention to grammar, it is boring to learn. hehe,
I like Changzhou's attitude: " when you are in doubt, just do it"
we can learn from our mistakes. If we taste the grape, we don't know whether it is sweet or sour!
Cheers to your new job! It will be a good place to practice oral English. haha, I want to study English as you did, but fortunately I am lazy. I can stick up listening English tapes or reading English articles. hehe, so it leads to my failure in improving my English. But I like reading posts of you all online, I try to learn from your posts, so try to write more and teach me more. hehe

hehe, but you have to make sure one thing first: the company will pay you according to your English level not your work capability, such as innovation capability and others. hehe

Grammar is also important
very agree the points.
I have one view to state: grammar is also very important, especially for a english beginning learner. when he or she is procifient with the grammar very much, he can go on the next. Listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating should be practised at the same time. I mean these 5 aspects are to be practised in the same emphasis level, can we improve the english quickly and efficiently. ;
Listening VOA;
Speak as often as possible;
Reading Chinadaily;
Writing a diary;
Translating anything you see;
