If same sex marriage doesnt work in the US, why does one think it would work in a much more traditional and conservative country like China? No, it wont work. Try to make it work in the US first and see what kind of chaos it will bring to the human society.
What is your opinion on same sex marriage? Do you think they should be allowed? What about kids rased by gay couples? Are they going to be confused?

Well, actually, same-sex marriage is already recognized in Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Nepal (as of about three days ago on 17 November), and to be recognized in Norway on the first of the New Year.
It's also recognized in the US states of Massachusetts, Connecticut. New York will recognize same-sex marriages from those states, even though it does not yet allow same-sex marriages itself.
In those places mentioned, there is no chaos and, in fact, no disruption at all.
Of course, each country has to make its own determination. Ultimately, though, the demographics are such that same-sex marriage will gradually be more widely accepted in most places worldwide.

Thanks for your reply. What does "recognize same sex marriage" mean? Does the couple entitle benefits from one another?

"recognize" here means "make same-sex marriage legal." In that situation, any benefit that is available for an opposite-sex couple (from one person to the other or from somewhere else, like a benefit from the government) is available to the same-sex couple. Benefits depend on each country or state but, generally, couples get some benefits (such as parenting and adoption rights, joint insurance rights, inheritance rights, etc.) from being married.
The "social problems" are really non-existent. Same-sex marriage benefits those who are allowed to get married and harms no one else.

Well, even discussing this topic a few years ago on a bulletin board in China might have been very unlikely so it is difficult to predict the pace of social change. In the US and probably elsewhere younger people are more accepting of same-sex marriage than older people¡ªthat means that demographically, there will be a shift towards greater acceptance as time goes on.

I am curious about the parenting and adoption rights for same sex couples. Just exactly
how many ways
for same sex coulples to be parents? And for the children raised by thesame sex couples, who is the mom and who is the dad? or do the kids just call them by their names? When the same sex couple divorced, who is a better parent for the kids then since the couples are same sex? In most states women are likely get the kids when they are young.
Benefits are just one thing out of all the concern and a minor issue. Love can be expressed among all people including people with same sex. No one denies that. But when it comes to children and parenting, that is when the complexities kick in.
Again, thanks Jeff for your input.
