Somalis: We're Not Pirates

After the Great Satan destroyed their country, leading to no organised government, the Somalis found there was no organised navy to defend their waters.

As a result the fishermen resorted to piracy. Except that they claim they're not pirates but defenders of their waters.

Once again, the anglo amerikan gangsters are the root cause of the world's troubles. What skum!

That is why numerous nations, China included, send part of their navies to these waters to protect Somalian satans from wrongdoings.

The current "pirates" are the closest things the Somalians have to power and are in many respects the de facto government.

I would treat their raids as imposed taxes, and I would simply resort to bribery when dealing with them, ideally, if I could afford it. This would create good will among the Somalian people, which may otherwise be paid off by capitalist/Western powers to engage in mischief against the People's Republic. These pirates can also be used as spies and informants.

China would also look more charitable to the rest of the world, and smart for finding a diplomatic/peaceful way to deal with pirates. Many of these pirates are just poor fishermen who cannot support themselves anymore due to overfishing and pollution.

If China has an armed conflict and many of these pirates are killed, it would be a public relations nightmare, and people in the US will start talking about how China has "turned capitalist" or killed poor people who just wanted food. This is exactly how the right wingers will spin it, and too many leftists and liberals in the US fall for the right0-wingers tricks. In fact a lot of US media has been glorifying and paying attention to these pirates, maybe because they anticipate conflict with the PRC and want to make China look evil or callous or ruthless.

That is not the case, but a lot of people here are not educated on matters of economic theory or geopolitics, Chinese history or Chinese politics and economy. A lot of people in the US don't even know what Marxism is, or what the Russian Revolution was about. All they will hear is that these poor people were killed by the "Evil Empire" of China, and that is all they will be told in Churches, on Fox News on the right-wing dominated radio networks. The pirates will also be romanticized, and their poverty will be focused on. The US did this with Muslim reactionaries during the Afghanistan-Soviet War.

The media will probably not go into how it was megacorporations that created the problem by dumping toxic waste in the oceans around Somalia. That part will be conveniently left out by all right-wing media, and liberal/leftist media will probably not correct it because 1- Defending China is risky during election season. 2- They are more focused on domestic politics. Most Democrats and Liberals simply do not care about foreign politics one way or the other, they simply want to make sure we have social programs and our economy does not fall apart.

maybe you're right

somali is in impoverished situation,and local goverment can't give them a enviroment where they can attract investment and proper introduction on that.plus a exteral factor,western developed countries don't do anything help to that area where economy is very poor in the world..i think it can't stop this pirate if we just use military attack ..united nations need to play a role to help that area to develop business,so that pirates will become less and less.....

Actually.... no.

The pirates are the closest thing that Somalia has to an economy. The Islamic factions that are currently fighting a turf war, for control of "the cut" made from charging pirates protection money, are the closest thing that Somalians have to a government (as the actual government is powerless).

Somalis are Muslims, and Muslims the world over (with a very few exceptions!) don't know how to run a national economy and a state efficiently, full stop. There is zero need toblame their "impoverishment" on outsiders; the Somalis have always lived on the edge of civilisation, preying on the civilised. Almost all Muslim nations are characterised by one cultural feature: Their educational level is held low by their religious zealotry. It would open your eyes wide if you took time off and spent it in a Somali tribal village. I am sure you would stop writing such nonsense here. "Power"? "The Somalis"? Those west country have't done anything good to the Africa.

After i saw this topic ,i recall that our gorvement's delect all loans we loan to Africa. Anyhow , we save some fo them.

  What have western capitalist have done to Africa . The IMF loan to Africa ,and promise many good thing .But when those africa have the money to return , the IMF raise interest rates to high degree ,and so their resources has been  exploited . This is the ugly behave they done .

  So their month said:"we live in one world ,we must help the third world country ! " But the behind this beautiful words ,they just want exploited  the fortune as much as possible.

  In fact ,the even exploited their our nation , but more secretly . Interesting , their nation didn't know ~!
