Cash-rich Chinese are looking for American homes!
The first group of the cash-rich Chinese looking to buy depreciating American homes has aroused great attention of American media. The group is welcomed by the American's real estate industry though the media exclaim with the Chinese are coming to buy houses. Some are for investment, and some for their children to live in when they attend American schools. Do you think it appropriate to buy a house in America? What do you think of it?

the privileged few who can afford an american home and get an american visa definitely will find it attractive to own a house in the US.

I've met a lot of these people, actually. Most of the purchases seem to be so their families, and eventually themselves, can leave China permanently. I only know two or three people who intend to ever return to China and twenty or so who intend to stay in the US for good.

Don't forget to buy guns too! Join a shooting club and learn how to use an AK47. The knowledge will come in handy!

who are they
if these are businessmen, they have the freedom; if these are officials, watchdogs should pay attention to them.

To buy now?
For Chinese citizens to buy a home now in the depreciating U.S. market is a good thing longterm. Nonetheless, too expect one is going to realise capital gains anytime soon is simply wishful thinking. Given this long winter of global recession, IF certain regions hit a Depression effecting global economic activity, (regional hostilities in the middle east for example) the property grab will have significant local implications in China.
Consortiums engaged in construction often gather their resources, build on land given permit and watch their wealth sky rocket. There was, and is a time when getting rich meant working hard, being thrift, and putting in significant amounts of time. All to many wealthy in China have forgotten that fact as they drive their shiny new cars.
Yes, buying overseas is a good longterm investment, though to believe that impact is not going to come full circle and effect the socio economic structure in China is somewhat mistaken. When the affluent buuld and they see no gain, elements of society will feel the pressure of stagnation and the tightening of the belt in all facets of daily life.
Simply becoming bailed up in your luxury apartment or immigrating to the West is no particular recipe for fullfillment. It seems like doing time. Things are harder. By all means, buying overseas is a good longterm investment, only the boomerang will return to effect daily life in China.

This is possible all over the world and is not restricted to the U. S. alone.

If you can afford it and it makes good financial or business sense for a persons particular situation then yes. One thing is for certain. Property in America will not likely be this low priced ever again.
It may very well be Chinese and other foreign buyers that turn Americas housing crisis around.

China is a free country.
You earned the money, u spend how u like.
Buy nice big motor, buy nice big Amerika house.
What’s the problem?
My only problem, I can’t find the right boy to spend the night.
If I have the money, I rent nice tight white butt boys.

What those cash-rich people do is just like the people in China mainland. The only different is the place.
Take an example. People from other places of China come to shanghai to buy themselves a house or an apartment. What do shanghai local people think about this? And what do those buyers think?
The same thing happened in America. Now it's time for Americans to think about this.
I hope one day there is a Chinese will become the president of USA.

Economics of a US home purchase
It is possible to buy a cheap home in the US but there is no substitute for quality and location of the property. And with the huge increase in the US debt, a current home buyer should be rewarded with an increasing valuation due to inflation that will be making its way through the pipeline.
But whether it is a mid-rise or high-rise condominium, townhome, or a home situated on a parcel of land, take the necessary time to view what may be of interest on the internet. Select the US region first: Northwest territory; East, West or Gulf Coast; Mid-American farm land region; the desert area; the central mountain region with a lot of trees; ski resort area in the mountains . . . just to name a broad representative list to consider. Then select a city or small town: near a lake, river or forest; shopping or medical center; or a densely or sparsely populated area. Take the time to talk to the local folks, preferably visiting the location of interest. It is all here. And that is the biggest problem . . . a huge selection. You need to know what you want, where and why.

The U.S. is less populated
China is densely populated in urban areas. People want to escape the crowds, the long lines, the waiting, ..... but there is also a price to pay for leaving one's homeland.
People who fled from Hong Kong to Canada and Australia, many are now back in Hong Kong.

It's winter time, many of those who fled HK do spend summer in Canada and winter in Southern China. A couple of weeks ago I had some visitors over here on their way to Hongkong. They return to Canada by mid June.
