It's truly sad knowing so many live in absolute poverty. I read the print copy of CD the other day and I noted tha there were about 250 Million folks who lived in such poverty in 1978. I also noted ...
There wouldn't be so many chinese living in poverty if opium weren't forced onto the Chinese at gunpoint! Furthermore, western and Japanese gangsters also exacted crippling  heavy war indemnities on China, robbing all her wealths and causing untold suffering and crushing poverty to her people!

But despite facing all odds and many unfavorable circumstances China still managed to lift 400 million people out of absolute poverty, indeed this is a great achievement and really  something  to be proud of !

well, the opium part of the problem was due to "the great gold and silver suction ability of the export powerhouse of China of yesteryears"...

unlike Paper money, which can be burnt as offering to ghosts.....
Gold when exhausted will leave nations (who happens to have a big military over years of stealing and robbing each other for land, gold due to poverty) a few option, most of it, how to rob another nation for gold to pay for the products....

The entire European expansion out west and east was basically to protect or find more gold to pay for those "good stuffs of life"....

simple!

This is a fair evaluation of the problem!

Thanks yuan, I obviously wasn't paying enough attention and didn't realise it was disposable income. Still not much difference since we are talking growth rates and if expenses remain constant  ...
But in my opinion it has been very difficult to realise. You know in different period there are different problems for development. China is in a period when it has to face a widening gap between urban and rural areas.

It would has been a miracle if the gap maintains the scale.

In China's productive farms....

....even a 4 to 10 hectares farms is good life.

IN Malaya, i have seen 4 hectare padi farms.
the Archipelago Malay live the good life, large home, 1-3 cars per family!

no joke!

That's because our farms produces 6.0 to 10.0 tonnes (depending on how you weigh the padi, wet, dried, with husk etc.) per hectare.
and they earn up to US$6,000 to US$10,000 per family...ditto for palm oil, it's 5.5 tonnes per hectare at US$500 per tonne?

(that's why i ask patani, native to be careful about population density especially the "way of life" favoured by their people)

That's an EXCELLENT MOVE.

It puts money in our farmers hand.
but more crucial is to reduce number of farmers, increasing processing business in the rural region.
try to build TRADING CENTREs to allow farmer lower margin access to material goods.

I have suggestions, Start SHOWCASE Centres in rural towns.

I am sure China already has such programmes but just a suggestion...

Showcase processing machine cataloques for the backward regions benefiting from higher income with higher food prices.
An example would be Taiwan's WHOLE PLANT information books.

This showcase all kind of rural processing from (1) noodle making, to (2) Food packaging systems...

"Chinese farmers' income to be doubled"
Does the income exclude source from working ouside farming? They make more money in construction site or factory than farming.

The authorities should help more on dipping irrigation facilities or waste water recyle system to help them.

Another typical propaganda  information for dumbs:

The income to be doucled DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING: THE ONLY TRUE INDICATOR IS THE INCOME INCREASE COMPARED TO THE INFLATION AND OTHER LIFE BASIC PRICES!!!!!

What does it mean to say "income doubled" when in the same time the land price, the food price, the house renting increase too?

687 dollars, or 1300 dollars, I dont know who or wich system decide these hard-working peoples who feed billions of peoples,  just deserve so ridiculous income, but I just hope these farmers wont get to wuick internet and TV because, I'm not sure they will so happy to learn how much peoples in East china cities earn compared to them. And I'm not more sure that they will understand so easily the 4000 000 000 RMB amount invesstissment plan for economic crisis without any serious or detailled plan (who will lead, of course, to the traditionnal corruption)

Taking agriculture as the most important thing is our main policy.
Rich difference between the farmers and the citizens is quite serious in the past and we  are always seeking ways to solve it. And this should be a little advancenment.
Politically or economicly, whatever, it is a cheering thing is nowadays economic situation.

The problem would be if Rural incomes double but Urban incomes double or triple.

The government should be urged to take measures to improve the circumstance of rural members,  expecially in  health care and education. There are so many peoples in the countries of China. it is hard for government to execute some policy, but we are better off with it than without it though.
