China strongly denounces CNN host's insulting words

Updated: 2008-04-15 20:50

BEIJING - China is shocked by and strongly condemns CNN host Jack Cafferty's remarks, which maliciously attacked the Chinese people, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said at a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

Cafferty said in a TV show on April 9 that the Chinese products are "junk" and the Chinese people "basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years".

"Cafferty used the microphone in his hands to slander China and the Chinese people, seriously violated professional ethics of journalism and human conscience", said Jiang.

What he did "reflected his arrogance, ignorance and hostility towards the Chinese people, ignited indignation of Chinese home and abroad, and will be condemned by those who safeguard justice around the world", said Jiang.

"We strongly demand CNN and Cafferty himself take back the vile remarks and apologize to all Chinese people," Jiang said.

As a Chinese, I feel extremely outrageous and insulting at the despicable remarks coming from CNN.
I therefore urge all our Chinese brothers and sisters all over the world to boycott, from now onwards, all news coming from CNN which has proven to be so unprofessional, unethical and basically so biased that what it says or continue to says about China and her innovative people has no news value nor any relevance whatsoever.
CNN is one of the typical Western despicable example of pure fantasy, myth-spinning and evil fairy tales spawner.
Shame on CNN and the likes of it all over the biased Western world!!!
DON'T READ NOR HEAR ANY MORE CNN NEWS WHICH STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN...cheers!
Meanwhile, let the Beijing Games continue prideful on our very own...!

I am a Thai who watchs CNN every day on our pay TV.I 've learned for quite a long ago that CNN is not an impartial news reporter. It appears to be USA propaganda mouth piece.

When US prepared to invade Iraq in 2003,CNN reported all the worst things about Iraq and Saddam Hussein including the Weapon of Mass Destruction in order to fan hatred and gain worldwide support.Later many reported news turned out to be untrue. The similar practice also applied to Iran presently. They also report all sort of mad violences supposely carried out by the Palestinian whereas very little was reported on the merciless actions taken by the Jew.The propaganda methods are subtle and multi level, deliberate and sustained. It has been so successful that CNN may think it can make up,twist and distort any news to brain wash people and take benefit from it.

What CNN doing to China now is therefore nothing new,it can be partly or wholely the purpose of CNN existence.

China should have known from the present Tibet episode and the long experience of 150 years under the colonial powers that who are freinds and who are blood suckers and be very careful not to be under surprise attack and lose your teritory or sovereignty again. In order to safeguard them China need to be strong economically and militarily,
China needs to match the West in firing power, you've already built too many unnecessary sky high priced building for the Olympic. You urgently need modern weapons to refrain these blatan behavior.

CNN or BBC have a larger hidden agenda which is to continue Western dominance of the world by influencing the minds of their readers and viewers through biased reporting and subtle twisting of facts. This is why they resorted to cropping out the pictures of violent protesters in Tibet throwing stones to fit in their propaganda that the protests were friendly. We Asians need not show too much respect for news organizations like CNN and BBC. Go for the alternatives like Al Jazeera and CCTV 9.

Jack Cafferty is a truly un-cultivated guy, who has no knowledge of human race. He must be disbarred from his ignorant field, in which some childish commentors always speak out some irresponsible words to please their evil minds.

Love China, my motherland, For Ever!

Ask that anti Chinese goon, Jack Cafferty that if those Chinese goods are "junks", how come they are so popular with American consumers? And how come those giant retailers like Wallmart, Kmart, Target, Sears, Home Depot,Lowe,Cosco, and Sam's Club continue importing them? Does Jack Cafferty care to admit that if not for China made goods, the inflation rate in America would have shot sky high by now? And if not for China buying the American bonds and Treasury bills, America would have gone broke a long time ago and possibly sunk like the Titanic! And also if not for those low price China made toys, how many American kids esp those from poor families would be able to enjoy those toys that get on Christmas day and on their birthday.

All the above facts go to show how dumb that Jack Cafferty guy is. He is shamelessly displaying his stupidity for all Americans to see. To me, he's just another one of those tv night clowns, not to be taken seriously.

Commentary: CNN owes China an apology for slandering
(chinadaily.com.cn)
Updated: 2008-04-16 01:43

The American Cable News Network (CNN) is making news with China, again. Last time, cnn.com editors chopped a picture with more than 10 stone-throwing Tibetan mobs chasing a Chinese riot police wagon nowhere to see, causing wrath of millions for photo doctoring. This time, an amateur anchor blasted out Chinese people as "goons and thugs" and Chinese-made goods as "junk".

Sixty-six-year-old Jack Cafferty, in a TV program called Situation Room that aired on April 9, obviously unhappy with China "holding hundreds of billions of dollars" of U.S. paper deficits, more and more American consumers "buying from (inexpensive) Wal-Mart", and certainly the "changed relationship" with China, moaned: "The Chinese are basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they have been in the past 50 years."

Many, assumingly including U.S. citizens, are stunned and shocked with such racist and vicious attack without any cover on a group of people. As a matter of fact, in the past years, Chinese people are getting on good terms with a huge number of earth residents, of different color, different language, from different continents.

As the head wind is changing its direction, Cafferty becomes sick.

So annoyed by Cafferty's despicable and shameless attack on an American national TV, American Chinese have launched an online petition, requesting an apology from CNN. The petition has got more than 40,000 signatures and the number of signatures is growing by the minute. China's Foreign Ministry, on April 15, also strongly condemned Cafferty's weird remarks, demanding CNN and the anchor himself take back the malicious remarks, and apologize to all Chinese people.

It is rare for the world audience to hear such a blatant discrimination against an ethnic group of people with such a derogatory connotation. What Cafferty did was using his privilege as a CNN anchor to insult China and slander all Chinese people. He is pathetic to have wantonly violated professional ethics of journalism and lost his conscience.

The United States is known for "melting-pot" culture, and the dangling "American dream" which have inspired people of different colors to emigrate to it. However, the like of Jack Cafferty, sitting before TV screens watched by tens of thousands of audiences in America and elsewhere, and attacking Chinese people, is nothing but showing its rudeness, arrogance, ignorance and hostility towards China.

After years of efforts by some Western media to demonize China has failed, the ink of Cafferty have come to the forefront to directly assault China, which reflects the utter frustration and despair of some wicked men and women.

The biased reportage on the Lhasa riot that took place on March 14 by CNN and some other western press has backfired. Tens of millions of Chinese, living at home and abroad, the young and Internet savvy especially, have rallied together. They have stood firmly behind the Chinese government and fought back the twisting journalists with one big voice: Stop doing it!

Angry with Cafferty's outburst, an increasing number of Chinese people have written on Chinese online chatrooms, demanding the Foreign Ministry deport CNN from China. China Daily website may not agree with the punitive measure, but a prompt and sincere apology from Cafferty and his organization is needed.

China must be well prepared for all eventualities to occur in the next few years! As Chairman Mao had said before that the WW3 is still very real and it may become a reality one day. I see that this D-DAY is imminent given the fact that the Western economies are dwindling, unemployment rate is rising, living standards are deteriorating, oil and food shortages, commodities prices rising....They are taking every opportunity to 'corner, squeeze and attack' China by making unfounded accusations. This is just the beginning of the calm weather before the BIG STORM!

America has had waves of hatred and biase aimed at different ethnic groups.

Some examples.

The anti-Chinese immigration legislation of he 19th Century which was aimed at keeping out Chinese who were able to mine gold out of places American miners had long given up on, and Chinese labors who were more efficient than Irish labors at building the railroad.

The anti-Japanese wave that occured during WWII when Japanese AMERICANS were rounded up long with Japanese nationals and put into interment camps. Interestingly nothing similar was done to German Americans on the East coast of the US. And interestinly no Japanese American was every found to have been operating on behalf of the Jpanese imperial government during the war.

The anti-Arab biase that took off in the late seventies when the Arab oil embargo occurred. This biase is still very prevelant in American society. Look how US foreign policy has basically done everything it can to thwart the Palestian people's drive for a permanent homeland.

Anti-Japanese feelings reemergedin the late 70s and early 80s in the US when Japanese auto started out performing and selling American made vehicles. They were accused of dumping cheap auto onto the US market. Interestingly enough at the height of these feelings, a Chinese American man named Vincent Chin who was mistaken for a Japanese by a mob of young American men was beaten to death on the streets of Detroit.

And now with the economic rise of China, China bashing is coming into fashion in the media. It started in the late 90s with scapegoats like Wen Ho Lee being falsely accused of spying for China. With China's rise many American's feel worried that they may not be as powerful after all, and the way they react is by trying to take down their perceived threat.

So let's keep things in proper perspective. China will face these attacs in part because their star is rising That is the reality. So instead of trying to close your ears off and throw CNN out of the country. China must take these attacks on and with the civility it is known for counter them with historical reality, lgeal means, and a PR offensive

Cafferty's slip is showing the true colours of USA's ruling elite's fear of the rise of China. The USA can accuse others of censorship but its press are controlled by an elite (I am a conspiracy fan)that uses it to further their agendas. Do not blame others for your trade deficit and debt. Americans should learn to live within their means even if they have to accept a lower standard of living. The world does not owe USA a living. USA just spend too much on military adventures to control other countries for their resources in an ever diminishing return cycle. So leave Iraq, stop supporting Israels never ending military spending, pull your troops out of Korea and Japan, and in simple language, learn to mind your own business, learn to make consumer goods rather than weapons and above all, stick to good old fashion trading rather than military occupations.

China Daily web commentary said: "As the head wind is changing its direction, Cafferty becomes sick." Now I clearly get to know what the writer of the commentary means.
Truly, many red-neck Americans cannot figure out why China is winning this "economy contest", because Chinese people are hard-working, famous for saving their money and not spending too much, students learning knowledge till early hours every day, China's leadership acted wisely and marvellous in managing and extending this economic pie, with more people enjoying benefits of the pie.

I just listened to youtube, and get enormously angry with the trash anchormen Cafferty (?) and another man called Wolf Bolitzer (?), who attacked China's government as a "Communist regime".

But the glad thing is this Wolf Bolitzer also admitted the relationship with China has changed, meaning China is taking the upper hand in trade, finance, investment, economic competition.

But he didn't understand the real reason for the down-turn of the superpower. because there are too many red-neck and cheek neo-cons in America, who are too blood-sucking (Iraq, Afganistan, Somali, Yugoslavia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Pakistan, Poland, the list goes on); American people are notoriously big consumers but not savers. How can a country survive on borrowing money from others?

The subprime crisis is just beginning, wait and see!

Really great editorial from China Daily ONline. Thank you for uniting Chinese all over the world.

Now, young students including college, high school students, are becoming firmly united in firm support of Beijing Central Government. And, after we students now read clearly the ulteior motives of western press and weird politicans attacking China and Chinese, we feel the responsibility on our shoulders even heavier. We must study hard, work hard, for China, and all developing countries that had been bullied by the bullies.

For those in the room who do not know...

China seeks apology for 'goons' comment

The Australain - April 15, 2008

CHINA has demanded US television news channel CNN apologise after one of its commentators said the Chinese were "goons" and that their products were "junk".

Jack Cafferty made the comments earlier this month on CNN's political program The Situation Room.

"We are shocked at and strongly condemn the evil attack by the CNN anchor on the Chinese people,'' Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said.

"Cafferty used the microphone in his hand to slander China and the Chinese people, and seriously violated reporting ethics.''

Cafferty said the United States imported Chinese-made "junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food".

"They're basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years,'' according to a copy of his comments carried on YouTube.

China came under international scrutiny following a series of food and product health scares last year.

It says the vast majority of its products are safe and has accused Western media of over-hyping the problem.

"We solemnly demand that CNN and Cafferty retract their evil words and apologise to the whole Chinese people,'' Jiang said.

CNN's Hong Kong bureau, one of its main reporting bases in Asia, said it had no immediate comment.

China has lashed out at Western media organisations, including CNN in recent weeks following unrest in Tibet, accusing them of running distorted reports, siding with pro-Tibet independence groups and of demonising China.

Maybe someone from the private sector should press for a defamatory action and seek worldwide apology published which is repeatedly. Such publicity seriusly damages the image not only of China but also much of Asia. As China is one of the leading countries in Asia now in many ways and the largest by population it does represent Asia to a large extent. There apart there are other nationals of Chinese origins whom are also implicated as they have the same appearance.

If Asia always keep silent when western media irresponsibly demonizes Asians, this first hurts the Asians, second creates an articial sense of superiority amongst westerners and third gives an impression to the westerners that Asians are second class citizens of the world. Asia must consolidate and speak up.

However if you are angry with such irresponsible news reporting, don't let your anger get the better of you. Turn that anger into appropriate responses not inappropriate ones like violence, destruction or anti-establishments. Be more resolute to refine your culture so that you will be better, more civilize than the others specifically the westerners. Be more resolute to seek and enhance your knowledge and wisdom so that you become wiser than the others specifically the westerners. Be more resolute to improve your economic prowess so that you will be more affluent than the westerners. Be more resolute to protect your health both physical and mental so that you live a better quality life than the westerners. Be more resolute to bring peace and harmony to the world so that you become a better person and unlike the west who had always thrive on others' misfortunes. Be fair, just, trustworthy and credible so that others trust you
