I'm Impressed! This forum allows much speech!
I must say, as a US citizen wo reads chinadaily every day for a view into China....
I never imagined finding a forum where such open discussion can happen about politics and other issues China faces.
I was under the impression that censorship would have killed most of the posts I'm reading....
Are these forums only available to IP's outside China??
Or am I just a victim of the US's press?

?
I'm in Northern Capital, that is Beijing.
What make you think this forum only available for non-China IPs?
But welcome anyway.

Wait till you get abused for having a different view.
Or come across one of our resident extremists that make the jihadists look like girl scouts.
Then lets see if are still impressed with us.

Agree with you.
Many posts here are pretty critical of the government or policies, still the moderators allow them. this could be a reason why so many forum members are active here.

I like that. I think they mean you Chang :lol:lol:lol
That's freedom isn't it?
You're free to abuse back if you wish.
It's also likely you don't know the personalities here well yet.
A few just see what they say as having a little fun rather than anything too serious.
Take Chang for example. Where would we be without his occasional Jihad posts
Keep it up Chang :lol:lol:lol

Yeah we better warn you about some of these characters. They go by the goofy names of:
emucentral
seneca
mencius
christopher_104
wertywest
and so on. These guys find it hard to face facts and cannot handle the truth.

As to free speech on this forum:
What is amazing is that:
(1) people who are getting a good hiding in a debate will make the claim that there is no free speech!
(2) individuals that continually attack China and its government (on this forum) say that there is no free speech!
(3) in most western forums the secret services will definitely be monitoring what is said for anti-terrorism and security reasons (am I paranoid?)!
(4) when any Chinese forumite give back as good as they get they will be accused of not having free speech!
(5) the only posts that seem to be banned are the ones that involve very insulting swearing and abusive behaviour (e.g. emu tend to lose it often as he is not very good at debates).

Umm, maybe Chairman and Canchin are right, we need to have a forum greeter before newbies are beaten senseless for they-know-not-what.
Okay, my two cents worth...

I second that.
A lot of forums do have a thread for new ones to introduce themselves.

I'm STILL very impressed
Being a US citizen, having others throw insults your way is just part of growning up in the USA....free speech makes for a thick skin.
Besides, I love to hear people who do NOT agree with me, it forces me to defend things which may either no longer be true, or face conclusions which I came too which are wrong....
I really enjoy this site, its given me a great insite into China...I truely hope it continues...Chinas destiny is to be the main superpower, it will take time, but in the end, all power comes from who has more labor hours, and well, China and India have way more labor hours available than anyone else....the only multiplier is skill level, and China is increasing its skills per person, so soon it will assume a lead role in the world....I only hope it changes enough to allow, indeed to embrace free speech and political disagreements....
There is a beauty in seeing people in the street protesting their government, so long as its PEACEFUL, and always NONVIOLENT, Never ever, should there be violence to change leadership.....never never never....this is what democracy attempts to prevent....not always well, but democracy is not the only way to have non-violent change of governments....and change of government does NOT have to threaten the established order, nor does it have to threaten the state or peace.
The freedom to yell out against a government is just so precious, its the one thing I hope for China as it grows.

yes, welcome on board.
as the chief moderator of the forum, the guide for me is to discouarge personal attacks, but encourge debates, esp, insightful thoughts, critical but constructive, which can help China and the world peace.

You have to hit the ''Report'' button at the bottom of the post.
But I am sad because some good jokes have been deleted this morning.
I just hope the xxsnakexx is happy in the secure vivarium.

OOPS, nearly hit the report button.
Perhaps you should pin these words on the forum rules or somewhere equally obvious?
