A MOTHERS RIGHT TO KNOW
Was in the lift today with one of my female co-workers.
She is highly pregnant.
So I asked her with a smile on my face:
When is your Child due to be delivered ?
She answered:
Oh, in approximately 3 weeks from now.
I responded:
That's great, do you know already if it is a boy or a girl ?
She replied:
We are not "allowed" to know in China.
Silence. Just a Good bye and Have a nice weekend !
On my way home I was thinking about the small talk we had.
How much should a government be allowed to interfere in such private family affairs.
Of course, I am not stupid. I do exactly know, why the government does not allow mothers to know.
But is that right ?

I think you know that China has 1.3 billion population.
You just found a new ugliness in China that may bring excitement to you?
As usual.

I believe you.
That's how you "save" impoverished woman from impoverished country.
As a rich white man, you saved him from poverty.

I am not sure, if you are gay, or if you are just single, or if you are married with or without children.
Let's assume you are married and your wife is pregnant - assuming that you are the rightful father ...
With ultrasound it is very easy for any doctor to determine the sex of an unborn child.
You want to be prepared. Are you not interested to know in advance the sex of your child ?
I mean, it is not anymore like Santa Klaus and the Christmas presents to be hidden from the eyes of the children.
What is your view on this ?

Are you a bit drunk ?
No reasonably sane person can talk such a nonsense.
My wife is a "she" - I am not so sure with you anymore.

It's the same, boy or girl, if I'll have it.
The most important is healthy.

Never mind, if boy or girl, most important is healthy.
You really a submissive, loyal, obedient and patriotic citizen.
Just the way it should be.
Not the slightest doubt for justice and for the possibility that a government or government official can fail.
If only all Chinese citizens will "function" as perfectly as you, there will be eternal "harmony".

I think the Chinese governement did the right thing. Excellent on this.
Because, some evil mothers and fathers will kill the baby if it's a she. My friend from CHina, her father divorce the mother because the wife decide to give birth to a daughter. It's the culture.
But from what I heard, in some parts of China, people are beginning to favour girl more. So I'm sure the rule will change at a better time. Change must take place slowly.
Actually this mindset is not just in China, it's almost in all parts of Asia. I myself have fought my rights even as a child. Because girls are treated like some unholy, unclean people and guys are suppose to possess some holy power. All rubbish!!
Oh my goodness I'm so sad!

I think it is wrong to forbid parents the right to know.
I am aware of the abuse and of the abortion problem.
But this should be treated separately from the above.
The government has to punish those who do unauthorized abortions.
But I do not see why innocent parents are punished for nothing.

But they'll eventually know right?
We must be realistic with human nature. SOme mothers are killers. They may appear sweet or they may even be considered kind and nice women. But the human mind is very good at self-righteousness. They will kill the baby if it's a girl and they will convince themselves they did nothing wrong.
This delay in the gender is worth it to save life.

That's bad for sure.
But to restrict the rights of those who are good and innocent couples is not the right way.
In Guangzhou there was some years ago the problem of robbers on motor cycles.
The government "solved" the problem by prohibiting all motor cycles in Guangzhou.
This kind of using the big brush to solve problems is not the way to go.

Chinese people are not little children to be disciplined by the teacher,
but grown up adult citizens who want to be taken serious by their government.
At least that is what I assume.

Choice (1) Ban gender test. Save lives.
Choice (2) Give more freedom, price is the killing of babies.
Which choice will you go for ?

In Europe we have no such restrictions on parents.
The population is shrinking.
People really do not mind if it is a boy or a girl.
Of course they sometimes say (if asked) I would like to have a girl now, or I would like to have a boy now.
But whatever will be they do accept it.
We also do not have a 1 Child policy.

Choice 3
Let parents know the gender of their child, if they like to.
Introduce harsh punishments for those who do illegal abortions (mothers and doctors alike).
The government is doing something very contradicting:
It is trying to prevent abortions (in this gender issues)
and at the same time it "allows" or "tolerate" parents to abort if the child is already the second child.
To say it mildly, it is a rather immoral ruling.

I dislike any types of abortion and I'm against it.
But I am for the ban on gender test.
There is a difference however. Abortion due to second child and abortion due to the baby being a girl.
