LinCH is right.  Australia should be returned to the aborigines who were murdered and raped by the British pirates, and then enslaved.  Britain has not done enough to return them their birthright.  All these shows of sympathy are veneers to bestow the appearance of civility to British tyranny over the aborigines.

Australia is Kiwiland.

Limes are not kiwi's.

Britain owes China an apology and at least a trillion dollars of reparations for its uncivilized, inhuman, and brutal Opium Wars and Opium Genocide of tens of millions of Chinese men and women.

I think his needle got stuck in a groove.

Does anyone else suspect that these "forum members" are not actually real people?

You cannot force a nation to buy something that they want. You can, however, meet the existing demand and boost demand by undercutting the price of existing supplies. If it had not been for the Chinese paying out good money then there would have been no imports.  As for the morality of the Chinese government at the time - the British (and other nations) lost their drug market in China when the Chinese decided to grow their own.

However, should the British apologise for using force on China when the authorities retaliated? That is a different matter, however, since this happened beyond living memory it seems pretty pointless for the present British government to apologise for something that happened in an era when such behavior was considered an apropriate response to protect British citizens and their goods.

I can appreciate that the 'world' was not a willing victim of British attentions, however, the British have left a very large footprint on the map that has greatly contributed to the development of the modern world and in most instances promoted the development of the territory to the degree that these same territories now play a role in the modern world and can manage their own affairs. However, the act of colonisation was not unique to the British and if they had not got in first when they did then there were other nations such as France and Spain who would have done the same.

There are those who would point the finger at Tibet and claim it was colonisation which, I guess, was true to a degree many centuries ago but, like the British, the Chinese have also developed the territory under their control and continue to do so.
