Common Toxic Chemicals in Commercial Conditioners: Phthalates

Phthalates or phthalate esters, is a known carcinogen that has been linked to causing birth defects, damaging the human reproductive systems, lowering sperm count in males and contributing to lung, kidney and liver cancer.
These esters of phthalic acid are mainly used as plasticizers (substances mainly added to plastics to increase their flexibility and durability), while they are used by commercial hair shampoo and conditioner manufacturers as a way to have their products retain a "soft" feel to them.

So far, these industrial chemicals have only been banned for consumer usage in Europe but are still considered safe to use in the US.

Common Toxic Chemicals in Commercial Hair Shampoos and Conditioners: Parabens

Parabens are also known as types of methyls, propyls, butyls and ethyls.
This substance is used a germicide and a preservative to give commercial hair conditioners a longer shelf-life.
The toxicity of this chemical is cumulative which can remain in the body and is classified as a hormone disruptor.
What is a hormone disruptor?
This means that once parabens enter your body, they stop human hormones from acting the way they should. This substance also mimics the human estrogen hormone and has been linked to breast cancer and other reproductive cancers for both males and females.

Currently parabens are banned in Japan, Sweden and is under review in the European Union. However, the US says that parabens are fine but certain manufactures are stopping its use on their own.

Health benefits of organically-grown strawberries

Strawberries provide a number of benefits to the body’s cardiovascular health, especially in preventing problems related to heart disease and diabetes.
Extracts found from strawberries can possibly activate Nrf2, a protein in the body that increases antioxidants and jumpstarts other defense mechanisms. This protein is beneficial in decreasing blood lipids and cholesterol, which may lower the risk of cardiovascular problems.
Consuming strawberries can counter post-meal blood glucose and LDL (bad cholesterol). As such, strawberries can decrease the chances of diabetes and heart disease.
In a study, it has been shown that strawberry extracts can jumpstart proteins that protect the body against certain illnesses by increasing the body's in-built defenses to keep the cells, organs and blood vessels healthy.

However, be very careful about conventionally-grown ones!
Strawberries are the most chemically intensive crop in North America. Be very careful. Eating them can do more harm than good!
There are 65 different pesticides, fungicides and herbicides that are registered for use on strawberries in the US. Growers there even joke that conventionally grown strawberries are so full of chemicals that you could even grind them up and use as a pesticide.

Hahah! It's Friday the 13th {:soso_e113:}

Tip for buying strawberries:
Choose strawberries base on the smell rather than size. The odor can give off the flavor and the freshness of the fruit.

Tip for storing:
After buying strawberries at the market, keep them at room temperature for as long as possible because chilling will make it lose its taste.

Tip for washing:
Strawberries are grown close to the ground. So before taking a bite of the strawberry, it’s best to wash it multiple times in clean running water before cutting off the green stalks and sepals. This will help stop the fruit from soaking up the moisture and retain its flavor.

Well said!

To those who view China-Africa cooperation as threatening (somebody's or their own) interests, I would say that it is their own mentality and policy that need to be examined.
