The weaknesses you describe, patriachalism and ad-hock-ism, are found in America too, although to a lesser degree. But maybe not to a lesser degree based on America's wealth and freedoms-- ie, for all our freedom and money, America is not doing so well in diminishing the patriachalism and ad-hock-ism.
One thing I've noticed since 1987 is that America's markets have faced regular volatility.
In 1987, the market lost 20% of its value one October day.
In 1992, we had a currency crisis in the summer.
In 1997, we had the Asian currency meltdown (Ruble included).
In 2000, we had the tech bubble collapse that began in March.
In 2001, we had a recession.
In 2007, we had the credit market freeze-up in the first week of August.
In 2008, we had the mortgage market collapse in September.
That's 20 years with a calamity disrupting the normal functioning of our markets every several years
