I understand this.......

People should not fear their government (ideally). Such a government would last through out the ages.
If people generally want to improve their country, then it is in the government interest (and survival) to listen. Better communication between the people and the government builds a better society.

Sure a government can suppress the people with an iron fist, but their days would be numbered. China is becoming LESS suppressed not MORE. The ball of reform is rolling and can not be stopped. What direction this ball rolls is up to China to decide.

Building a better relationship with its people is rolling in the right direction.

Good point......

I'm sure the perceptions in HK maybe different than those in Mainland China. But the concept is the same. To improve the life of its citizens. China has done this, some more than others but in any case, life HAS improved for everyone.
