Hi Edisone, LTNS. Hope all's well with you.
Re your post #6 and Reagans bluffing.....I don't think h ...
Kiwi, my friend,
I love a debate with a person that can present himself and present himself with real substance. you, my friend are just such a person therefore always a pleasure even though each and every person on this board have and are entitled to their own viewpoints and opinions so here goes:
I don't think he was bluffing and thank God we didn't have to find out.
I wasn't the one who made up the story. i was merely quoting the contents of a documentary -- yes, a documentary -- that was aired in PBS which suggested that the science wasn't even available at the time.
Don't forget, those were the days of HAL of 2001 A Space Oddesy and the most powerful of computer as we know it then was nothing more but an eight digit battery operated electronic calculator by Sony and it was equivalent to what the i-phone and i-pad is today so, does the deductive logic's applies in this instance.
l mean we must admit: as earthlings of a well informed and well learn time and era, PBS and PBS products qualifies as the classrooms and lecture hall of knowledge for us mankind. thus, though none of us know the true goings ons of things in the reagan gorbie days, serious documentaries being aired by promenent organizations such as PBS does leave room for speculation, imagination, and questionings, do you agree?
To put the shoe on the other foot, how do we know that all these magical panaceas China is reported to be devloping (DF21/J20 etc) aren't bluff as well?
no, i do not know for a fact if whether those are bluffs or if they are the real deal. none of us do. however, if based on what are our educated guesses and deductive logics, the df-21d/j-20 are not stuffs of the orsen wells the martians are coming classification -- starwars however does fall in that category. the stuffs of the df-21 & j-20 we can logically assume are the stuffs of groom lake/area 51 -- covert projects that is and projects that are based on technologies that's readily available to humanity.
I'm aware there are working systems in place, but nowhere near what is needed to guaranteee China delivering defeat to the US.....not for a helluva long time methinks, if ever.
I'm aware that you are military and as such should be well versed or at least have a good idea of military matters, i.e., strategies, tactics, and all policies that military planners must involve themselves in on a daily basis.
as such, and if placing yourself in the shoes of a chinese general or chinese think tank, and if the equation you are confronted is that you are facing an opponent who was -- repeat -- was -- a thousand times superior to you, how will you go about to solve this massive and acute problem?
answer: you go to your defense contractors and you promise them them the world (all the funding's and more), and, with money being the root to all evil, and china certainly have sufficient any such evils, do you suppose the engineers and scientists of the world, regardless if chinese, russian, british, or even if new zealander, might not work their brains out and eventually come up with the means to solve these problems? don't forget, the chinese had a good ten maybe twenty years (since the early 90's) of fiddling, secretly, with these various r&d's. don'tb you agree that the timing is about just right?
I say this not because of the simple fact that they're Chinese designs but because, China has always had reliability problems and, as yet, I haven't seen any evidence to suppose that this has been remedied........
every country have quality problems with their goods and products. for examples, the russian su-27, the american f-14, 15, 16's and 18's had been falling off of the sky in droves, can we say then that american goods are junks? of course not.
metaphorically, i own a caddi once, the transmission just quite on me; then a VW Wesfalia Camper because VW's are known for quality and i had my experiences on a type-2 bus, it's in the shop more than it is on the road; my latest is a Toyota Sienna, it now have 227,999km in it and it still purrs like the most sexiest of kitten in the world but, how the americans grilled mr. toyoda because it had taken first spot.
i mean is toyota cars really that bad and unreliable with safety issues and all? that depends on whose doing the grilling and who is actually doing the hundred of thousand of kilometers of carefree and trouble free driving, don't you agree?
