Mechatronics development in robotics

...............has already SPUR new range of durables.

Toyoto Motor Corporation has intend to introduce in 2013 new MECHATRONICS with Numerical-AI systems. The initial introduction would be used in "geriatrics wards" in health care, geriatric care. We expect more complex ROBOTS to be introduced especially in HIGHLY DANGEROUS 3D work (where no man can be hired to perform), and SOCIAL robots as gimmicks or TOYS for rich individuals.

Let's look back into history of ROBOTICS....

.......FIRST commercially used in Japan to solve skill labour shortages.

The initial robots were built by companies for use in precision manufacturing industry. Mostly numeric control units (digital control) and have a few simple repetitive set of skills.

Introduced post 1990's.
That's before AI software improvements.
R-1, I suppose. The Robot 1st generation units.

The Americans is trying to market the

..............R-2, the new NASA-GM robot.

It's basically an upper body humanoid with superior DIGIT fingers capability. I supposed "Mimic movement" AI software will make these 2nd generation, R-2 robots useful in simple assembly operation - and is cost beneficial. It's kind of joke that, the low cost labour - The US$720 - US$1,800 annual wage assembly labour - is still competitive due to it's superior capability to learn, and do repetitive manual labour.

FORTUNATELY, China has other advantage, such as RESOURCES, COMMODITIES, MINERAL and ELECTRIC producing ENERGY advantage!

hmmmm

The best known "laboratory robot" available

...........is probably Sony's Assimo robot.

It's numeric control + AI capability is improving and would probably be ready to be marketed as a SOCIAL ROBOT. It will be an expensive TOY, probably US$80,000 to US$100,000 a unit or so; when marketed to the global middle class market! That'll mean almost 60 million household around the globe market.

If 10% will purchase the ROBOT for simple SOCIAL, NURSING capability - it's a 6 million unit market in total.

From the 2011 videos available online, it's capability has improved by "leaps and bounds". Now it can do simple "Service Jobs", like serving drinks, greeting & guiding guest (Honda Robotics capability) and do simple conversation. (Kokoro Robotics capability)
