ROCKALL                                                                                                          ed.gif

The most difficult island in the world to sleep on

Rockall, with its base of 25 metres, is constantly pounded by 3,000 miles of Atlantic swell. The world’s largest recorded oceanic waves of 29 metres were recorded there in the year 2000; 6 metres higher than Rockall itself. Being in such an isolated location, over 180 miles from nearest land, the sea state can change in minutes, and as Rockall lies outside the air sea rescue zone, all of these conditions combine to make it the most difficult island in the world to sleep on. Only four people have ever slept on Rockall. Less than 100 have landed it.

I currently have only one berth remaining for an expedition to Rockall. As such I invite proposals from anyone who would like to see, land or even spend the night on Rockall

Lundy Island
North Devon
introducing some Lundy mammals
.

soay sheep
The soay sheep has a good head for heights and is sure of foot. They are in their element clambering fearlessly on narrow cliff ledges. They may also appear on the menu at the Marisco Tavern. Soay.jpg

Skokholm Island

Skokholm Island is located off the south west tip of Pembrokeshire. It is four kilometres south west of Marloes peninsular and a similar distance south of Skomer, its very different big sister.  Skokholm is of international importance for its breeding seabirds and this is reflected in the many designations awarded it. It is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), part of the Skomer and Skokholm SPA (Special Protection Area), part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and part of the Pembrokeshire Islands SAC (Special Area of Conservation)

Skomer Island

On calm days the seas around Skomer are so glisteningly translucent that it is possible to see deep into the turquoise water. For most people this will be their only glimpse into the undersea world of a marine nature reserve that is an almost untouched wilderness. Above the waves, the richness and diversity of wildlife are much more obvious. A visitor to the island in early summer will find sea the strewn with rafts of guillemots, razorbills and puffins, which scatter, leaving watery trails of sunlit footprints across the surface, or dive deep to make a pathway for the approaching boat

Just 80 yards due west of Sark lies the enchanting and beautiful private Island of Brecqhou, comprising some 87 acres. Once part of the Vinchelez Fief in Jersey, it passed by inheritance and marriage to the La Marchant family of Guernsey, hence its previous title 'Iles des Marchands' from 1363 - 1681.

The island was purchased in 1993 by Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay who have substantially upgraded the facilities and built their magnificent castle home - Fort Brecqhou

The owners, own the Daily Telegraph, The Ritz hotel London etc
