Europe is a food surplus area............................


Unfortunately, this is widely true. The EU heavily subsidizes farmers, they produce a lot and  their goods into third world countrires. Then the farmers there lose their already small income. Of course this makes food prices cheap in the EU, but it makes people poor and the economy inefficient. So it's really a shame.
And it gets really immoral when western countries start to subsidize bio fuel -.-

I'm from a country where the average farmer gets subsidized with 60.000 US-Dollars a year (farmer subsidiaries cost as much as the military here!) and we still have high import taxes, so I can save for about 50% when I go to buy things in Germany (which I do every week as I'm living near the German and the French border anyway and can even get the VAT back). That's how stupid this policy is.
