With the REFORMATION by increasing the PROFESSIONALISM OF THE BUREACRACY carried out by Mr. Ahmad Badawi, and the PRIVATIZATION EFFORT of Doctor Mahathir ( I attended his birthday party on Thurday, yeahhh!), we, in Malaya are begining to see the role of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT be more of a regulatory role, guardians of CITIZEN's worker INVESTMENT in EPF, Tabung Haji, PNB as well ensuring the SAFETY and maintaining the SOVEREIGNITY of the Malaya, Singapore, Borneo federation.

The more successful government linked companies NOW have DEFINED natonal agenda of building up the infrastruture, such as TENAGA NASIONAL BERHAD, national grid investments (more and more, electricity generation is from a pool of efficient private enterprises; such as Powertek, Genting, Malakoff, YTL,  which we believe would have to competitively find their own industrial customers in the near future, paying commisson to use the national grid owners). While companies such as TELEKOM BERHAD would do likewise to lease out cable especially to service providers to market to end users.

Certain REVENUE collection agencies controlled by the Federal government especially PETRONAS BERHAD (fuel revenues), PLUS (public controlled road tolls), and National companies such as CIMB Berhad, BANK NEGARA will be used to protect the value of the RINGGIT, thus the protect the WEALTH of the MALAYAN CITIZENS reducing needs to have excessive capital outflow. The Indirect taxes will ensure low taxes, with target probably in between the low tax territory of Hong Kong - 17.5% rate compare to the present 28% rate.

(Mr. Najib has been on record to accord greater effort to some of this targets. He has a big burden of the case of his aide, Mr. Baginda Razak and poor performance on his part could mean the lost of votes thus control of the Federal government, and with only consolation of states in the Riau region to operate)

We have seen the help of CHINA, USA, BRITISH CLUB states to build up hydroelectric/non ferrous metals, solar cell production and banking/services/rare earth industries respectively by the 3 great powers of our contemporary world. Thank you to those states for their support.

The reinstituting of active autonomous STATE GOVERNMENT would steadily release the entrepreuneral energies of the CENTRAL REGION, Patani region and Penang.

Already I have seen the Penang government doing REFURBISHMENT of Georgetown city centre (whew! that place was a mess under the Gerakan Government, Barisan Nasional), and Ipoh is having a new CBD, privately financed, even a new, better airport.

Let's watch this tread on the real interesting changes instituted in Malaya, Singapore and Borneo.

cheerios!

The cliffhanger on MR. ANWAR Pakatan Rakyat takeover...

.....is still on the calendar.

So, let's see whether Mr. Najib will get the chance or would Mr. Anwar be in that role instead.

Either way, it makes no difference, Dr. Mahathir and Mr. Ahmad Badawi has done a TERRIFIC GOOD JOB.

cheerios!

Crude oil price falls, palm oil price falls.....

....timber prices affected too.

This will have BIG EFFECT on Petronas, Sime Darby, Felda, Felcra etc. (Those are the legacy of Riau leaders Mr. Razak and Tun Hussein Onn.

Currently Petronas pays in 2008, 40% of the national budget.
With the tremendous price falls in commodities, and apparent difficulty in setting a floor price for fuel, state revenue might be affected seriously.
The effect on Malaya and Singapore is less acute, as companies such as Wilmar, Sime Darby, KLK, IOI, Kwantas etc. have all created downstream activities to stretched to wholesaling of end products to the end consumers. However the plantation sectors will be affected greatly with the severely reduce margins.

We can probably take a leaf from Dr. Mahathir and Mr. Abdullah administration policies.....PRIVATIZATION....to generate economic activity.

Certain pending ideas needs implementation, and there are many "cash rich" companies in Malaya, Singapore and foreign states.
This includes (1) KUALA LUMPUR to SINGAPORE express rail project. - either KTM or YTL can implement this project.
                          (2) Expansion and gradual intergration of the LIGHT RAPID TRANSIT system in Kuala Lumpur to Metropolitan region of the Klang valley.
                          (3) Interstate Tolled Road highway extension - PLUS, and Gamuda are good track records in such projects.
                          (4) New airports for cargo, passenger, budget airlines, private jets and hobby schools. Perak state government is planning a privatised airport
                                expansion project in Ipoh.
                          (5) Expansion of broadband services.

In the meantime, such investment will ensure that "confidence is maintained" so that the private sectors projects will continue as planned such as new university campuses, new housing projects etc.

Yes, Water Catchment is very important.

Just look at the landslide problem in Malaya central.

The trees, with their roots helps to protect the intergrity of the hillside.
However GREEDY DEVELOPERs and their cronies in local government has ceaselessly damage the eco system of the land.
REMEMBER, hillside does water catchment.....
It should be left sparsely populated, and allow the citizen a place to enjoy the scenery.

Anyway, with a slowdown in the economy, those "RICH PEOPLE" with hillside homes could do well to "INVEST" in valley side homes.
especially in RAINY SEASON, like now....
Buy that 2nd home.

and LOCAL GOVERNMENT of Selangor, please change the DENSITY OF THE HILLSIDE.

It's a harsh reality, we must pay attention to the eco system.
