The first of nine bends in the Huang He/the Yellow River

but I don't know the context, so this could be wrong! Does the Huang He have only nine bends?

Interestingly,
an importantnovel by VS Naipaul published in 1979 was titled "A Bend in the River"
Manohar Malgaonkar wrote one called "A Bend in the Ganges" that I enjoyed reading years ago.
A 2002 novel by a Susan Gibbs was titled "The Bend in the River"
and a historical novel 'The Second Bend in the River' by Ann Rinaldi is popular among some!

Nah! To be honest, I've only read the first two.

The other two I found simply by googling to see if there are any other books by that name. So...!!!

Now, if i had read lots of books in Chinese, now THAT would be something to commend me for. I KNOW that reading more helps improve character recognition, and language skills (in any language), but I just stare at the page, freeze at the thought of all the unknown characters, and put the book away. Much easier to read the translation....!!

I barely got through Ba Jin's Jia, and that too only because my Chinese name is the same as that of one of the sons in the book!!

Sorry to have  gone off-subject. No more.
