(Excerpt from CNN)  In the UK sashimi is no longer regarded as “almost bordering on the barbaric” — and according to market research, one in five adults now enjoys eating Japanese food. In 2013 the cuisine was added to Unesco’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Why is Japanese cuisine so popular among Western eaters?

Why Japanese cuisine so well-known among Western eaters?

For the same reason little boys dare each other to eat worms or put a ball of mud in their mouths.
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

Japanese food is not healthy, especially its miso soup, it's very salty, eat that at your risk!  Many Japanese suffer kidney stones because of their salty foods.

It's all part of a strong Japanese soft culture. Sushi, which is also a favorite among many Chinese, is a 'must have' appetizer at most social events in western countries. Ramen - originated in China- is also wildly popular among non-Asian foodies.

And it makes me wonder why Japanese food is much more expensive than Chinese food. Is Japanese cuisine, for example, finer than Chinese cuisine? I doubt it.
