Ah, really? But then you must have changed YOUR MIND, because this is the FIRST TIME you are GIVIN ...

'It would be so easy to stop the rot by banning factories and cars but you only want to ban smoking...'

Wrong there!  I stick to the topic, which is about public smoking; I have equally strong views on factory and vehicle pollution, but kept them out of this thread!

Wrong?   WRONG???

I think you have used the WRONG word there!

Of course turning off factories and car engines WOULD IMMEDIATELY BRING HEALTH BENEFITS TO ALL CHINESE.

Guaranteed!
So why are you obstinately zooming in on cigarettes?

Seems you can't read simple English; repeat, I stick to topic, which is about public smoking, not about factory pollution.  Since you love that so much, why don't you start a thread on that and I will most certainly meet you there!  Problem with you is that you have the bad habit of hijacking other peoples' threads to further your anti CPC  agenda!

I am NOT "hijacking" someone's thread on smoking; I am doubting YOUR SINCERITY because you have wrongly - I repeat: wrongly! - brought up the aspect of PUBLIC HEALTH, claiming that "SECOND-HAND SMOKE IS HARMFUL TO PEOPLE'S HEALTH".

I am in complete support of bans on smoking in designated areas for the public good but I am not in agreement with quacks who make untrue CLAIMS.

Smoking ban indoors at public places, sure, and it would be nice to have private clubs for people that don't mind the second hand smoke.

There is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke causes numerous health problems in infants and children, including more frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infections, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

I'm against, "smoking bans"!
It just demonizes people against each other.
You will have people, being shamed for smoking.
There would be conflicts.

What real harm is there?
2nd hand smoke is such a small issue to get upset about.
The exposure to car exaust and factory waste, poses more health risk.
Smoking is done by people, the ones you work with, the friends you have.
You WILL criminalize people!
and the government have better things to do, than to enforce such minor things.

Accept, understand and tolerate others

Well, the ublic has a right to be protected against the nefarious effects of your consumer habits. Bans are alright where the interests of the majority can be compro9mised by people like you, i.e. smokers. There is no sense in banning smoking in open spaces. In the USA, apparently the banning fans want taxis and private cars to be declared smoke-free zones. Taxis I an agree to, but privately-owned cars? Because the driver is father or mother of a child who may sit in the same car? I think that's taking public health concerns too far into the privacy of citizens.

BUt smoking bans in airplanes, trains, buses, restaurants, shopping malls, airports, is fine. Smokers who ignore bans deserve to be shamed. Their selfishness is CRIMINAL.
