As a labor contractor, Foxconn’s function is to act as a “comprador” serving their Western clients. They’re just glorified sweatshops with no added value other than manufacturing. Now there are lots of Chinese OEMs who can do what Foxconn is doing but they also add value to their products by creating their own designs, brands, channels, technologies and standards.

China needs to get out of the so-callled “outsourcing” business because there is little value added to the economy by these sweatshop outfits. Both Germany and Japan — the two leading industrial nations in the world — manufacture only their own branded products and not those of their foreign competitors. Let Foxconn relocate their factories to the USA to manufacture products for their US clients such as Apple, IBM, Dell, HP, Cisco, etc. That way, these US companies can help the Trump Administration revive the manufacturing industries in the USA.

Do you realize that all US retailers do just what you’ve just described? They hire temps for the holiday season which runs from October to January because 50% of their annual sales occur during that period.
