Report to police, they will go after taxidriver, or call taxi company.

Report to the police, you say?

You have never had any dealings with Chinese police! You are so naive!

I once left my mobile phone on the table in a McDonald's and only noticed it an hour later.

I called my own number and someone answered. That raised my hopes.

And it was justified.

The woman answering y phone was a staff member.

I got my phone back the next day.

I wanted to reward her for her honesty but refrained. A tip could be interpreted as a bribe.

i have handed in many items i have found over the years. i once found a wallet that was full of cash ...

Many years ago I found a wallet in a telephone booth in a European city. It contained over a thousand Euros. The owner also left some name cards there, his own. From the name I realized he was an immigrant from N Africa.

I phoned him and he came to take his wallet plus its contents back. I was glad I had done this. The man was very educated, spoke good French. He rewarded me with a fine woven rug from his home town and invited me to a posh restaurant.

I reported a burglary to the local police. They talked to the burglar (whose name I had supplied as per my suspicion) and the burglar admitted to the crime but claimed I had debts to the burglar. The police then closed the case.
